Default Strange vibration @ 1650 - 1850 RPM

Anybody else notice a weird vib at or around that engine speed. All other speeds are smooth as glass.

It is makes a noticeable change in feel through the steering wheel and a strange pitch.

It does it in drive and neutral, whether moving or not.

I'm not sure where it is coming from, but it definitely doesn't feel right.

Thanks!

Rich

you are at the bottom and of the power band. I'm wondering if it is just a harmonic vibration, or if the flex plate may be slightly out of ballance.

has this just started or has it always had this vibration?

It definitely feels like some sort of harmonic vibration. Like I was saying, there is a notieable change in feel and pitch. It does it whether it is going through that PRM range on the way up or down, in gear or in neutral.

The thing that worries me about it, is it's one of those vibs that is bad on bearings. Real fast frequency with a strange pitch to it.

I've only had the truck for a little more than a week, it only has 800 miles on it, I noticed it about the second day I had it.

I'm scrathing my head on this one, might be worth a trip to the dealer since you have so few miles on it.

and if he says because it is a diesel, go to a different dealership. . .QUICK

I'm starting to think something is out of ballance.

That's what I was thinking too.

This is the first diesel I've "owned", so I wasn't sure if this was just one of those little quirks that was common to the CTD. I've driven plenty of our work diesels, but this is the first time I've really paid attention to the little noises and quirks.

Other than that specific range, this thing is smooth as glass. It's just that small range that is a little concerning.

I still haven't gotten to hook the trailer up to it; can't wait to drag that thing around a little.

Yeah, I'm gonna bring it over there today. But, like a lot of folks, I like to go in there a little educated on any issues before I walk in blind. Also, I like to fix things myself, if feasible and convienient.

This is the first diesel I have owned, so I'm putting myself into a steep learning curve so I can mess around without screwing things up.

mine vibrates pretty good at idle, but anything above idle and there is very little vibration and it is not RPM dependent. this is normal of the cummins, but if you have an oddity between a certian RPM range then something is a bit fishy.

Mine started doing the same thing this weekend while I was towing. Round trip was 400 miles and I was towing about 8,000 lbs. On the way home it started making the same vibration as mentioned above. The vibration kicked in between 1500 and 1800 RPM. My wife couldn't notice it in the passenger seat but I could feel it through the steering wheel and the floor board. I have almost 5,000 miles on my 2006 CTD 4x4 so I'm thinking WTF is up with this thing.

Oh, idle is understandable, that's just the nature of the beast. But, this is not the usual diesel rattle and clatter, it feels and sounds like a bee. Almost like riding a sport bike.

It's at the dealer right now. The tech noticed it right away, so we'll see.
