What would be the best oil to use for first oil change on a 07 CTD Megacab? I have read on here that there are different opinions on when tostart using synthetic. I will be using Fleetguard filter, just wondering about oil. I plan on waiting to use synthetic. This ismy first diesel, but not my first Mopar product. I have been reading this forum for the past few years and it has been very informative.

On October 15, 2006, API will begin certifying diesel oils against a new Service Category API CJ-4. API CJ-4 describes oils for use in high-speed four-stroke cycle diesel engines designed to meet 2007 model year on-highway exhaust emission standards as well as for previous model years. These oils are especially effective at sustaining emission control system durability where particulate filters and other advanced aftertreatment systems are used. More information on API CJ-4including frequently asked questionscan be found at www.apicj-4.org. Stay tuned for application information on this new service category.
This is right from the API's site. Look for the API donut on the container and the letters CJ-4. It's the new formula to reduce early service of the DPF on the new "full emission system vehicles"

I just looked at the Chevron site. Delo doesn't have the CJ-4 designation ......yet....?

Just speculation on my part, but I guess the CJ4 designation means less ZDDP, the main anti-friction additive? From what i've read, higher levels of ZDDP as in API CI4 or CI4plus are good for engine durability but bad for the new 07+emmissions system. Hence the new CJ4 spec. I wonder what the specs call for, CI4 vs CJ4, in terms ofZDDP content.

If its a cummins it likes the Rotella. **** walmart uses it and it only cost me about $45. I used to change it myself but it cost me $30 to do it myself. I'd rather pay the $15 bucks more and have them do it. Afraid to take your new baby to walmart to get an oil change? I was but if they do something wrong they got to pay for it.

I should have stated that it was a 5.9. I bought one before the change in January. It had worked well for so long! Thanks for the ideas for oil. I will not be taking it to wal mart, I prefer to do it myself. It gives me something to do, along with the other two vehicles, 2 dirt bikes, and a toy box.
