2006 cummins check engine light on again
Had a 1998 1/2 dodge cummins for nine years never had a problem withit, exept the normal wear issues. Traded that for my new 2006 cummins and I have had nothing but broblems. It is in the shop now for the 9th time. check engine light keeps coming on first code was cooling fan not coming on in time, forgot the others as they were all random. this time it is throwing the same code (low voltage power down ). I toldthe dealerto keep it until they can fix it, theyhave had it now for five daysand can not figure it out. Has anyone else had this problem????? HELP!
9 times in the shop? For an '06? Sheeeesh.
A number of years ago, my mom owned an 88 Honda Civic that she purchased new. From day one, it had a knock in the front suspension. She took it into the stealership about 3 or 4 times and every time it came back "unable to duplicate problem" or some such. She had me drive it to see if she was imagining things and I could hear it as well.
Finally, she raised holy hell, got the service manager to get his hands dirty and even he couldn't find the problem. She refused to take posession of the the carand got real testy with them.
They finally brought in a regional service rep who ordered the front suspension totally REMOVED from the vehicle. I mean every part. The problem ended up being some bolts in the lower controlarmsthat were not torqued correctly when the vehicle was built.
Moral of the story? Get indignant, get PISSED OFF, and get someone higher up involved! You paid a near fortune for a vehicle that has become a "hangar queen". If they can't get it fixed, take it on up the ladder and go to the regional offices. All the way to DC if you have to. Don't settle with a lowly minion. DEMAND to see the Service Manager. If that doesn't work, you then want someone higher up. There is always someone higher than just the dealer.

Only 9 times........heck, you're a light weight. Mine goes back in for it's final time on the 17th............this makes the 15th visit.
1 - Document everything
2 - Check your states lemon law requirements
3 - If it meets the lemon law requirements, send the official / certified / signature receipt letter to DC requesting the final repair attempt.
4 - If it's fixed, cool. If not, then you send the sofficial / certified / signature receipt letter to DC, cc'd to your states office of consumer affairs and your local BBB requesting replacement or repurchase.
The laws vary by state, so you have to know them or you won't get anywhere.

Cumminnotstrokin - has the dealer reflashed your ECM yet? They had a problem with the '06's and the cure has been to reflash it - but for some reason apparently a lot of dealers aren't trying that...
The service adviser said that he does not remember the code but it read (low voltage power down) They did say it was an uncommon code and still trying to figure it out

Ok got the truck back. They said that I had a dead cell in one of my batteries code was P2509. They replaced both batteries. I guess time will tell if that was the fix. Man did I miss that power, they had me in a ford fusion?? of course I had to lite it up and blow alot of smoke
Six days for a mechanic to find a bad battery??????????
After being looked at by the regional tech specialist guy, they say that there is nothing wrong with the truck.
said the last code that was thrown was 200 miles ago this even after i took it in this morning with the CEL light blaring in there face.
So there new plan is to wait until morning to start it cold and see what they get

Seems simple to me. If everything else checks out ok but the ecm keeps lighting up the cel, then the ecm is bad, ask them to replcae it.I'm not an expert, just some horse sense.
