Default Diesel mileage

I purchased a new 2006 Dodge Ram 2500, Cummings diesel, auto, 4X4, LoneStar package about 5 weeks ago. I was just curious in that my mileage estimator always reads between 16.8 and 17. 8 yet when I fill my truck and manually check the mileage the truck always gets 15.2 MPG. Is the estimator always that far off in it's calculation? Also is that about average for that truck? I hear about others that get much better mileage.

I now have 3,000 miles on the truck and I love it! I have driven Fords for over 20 years and am a new convert.

Dont pay any attention to the feel good monitor.Your mileage is about right on paper for a CTD. It will improve after you get it broken in. My 2004 got about 15mpg when it was new, now Im getting 18 . If I go easy I can see almost 20mpg. Give it time and enjoy it. My truck is still stock.

nice truck!!!

the oil bypass is a system that filters down to the 2 micron level. https://www.amsoil.com/storefront/bf.aspx

it allows longer oil change intervals.
