Default Gauge Selection?

I am looking at picking up some gauges in the near furture and am debating about the best 3 to get right away. A lot of the packages have the EGT, Trans and Boost gauges, but I am thinking that instead of the Boost gauge, I would get the fuel pressure gauge. I ordered the Quadzilla XZT and since that deals with fuel pressure and such, I thought the fuel pressure gauge would be a better route to go.

What are y'all's thoughts on which three to get?

Thanks,

I would eliminate the trans gauge before I eliminated the boost gauge. Most of them already monitor the trans temp and slippage and back off, if needed.

I would definitely want to know what kind of boost I'm producing.

But yeah, fuel pressure surely wouldn't hurt. Even better, get the rail pressure gauge.

Chewy,

You can always get a Commander and get all the gauges at once =)

http://www.quadzillapower.com/products/commander.html

From Quad's website....

The Commander provides digital monitoring of up to 7 parameters on your truck simultaneously
The Commander works as a stand alone gauge and no other products are needed to use the monitoring system
The Commander has the largest LCD screen of any stand alone type gauge
The Commander will de-fuel based upon EGT, Boost, Trans/Oil Temp, Engine Coolant (high), Injection Pressure, and Fuel Pressure. This alone almost makes any other gauge obsolete.
Parameters Monitored: EGT - Boost - Transmission/Oil Temperature - Engine Coolant Temperature - Injection Pressure - Fuel Pressure (0-100psi) RPM

I've thought about the commander and it would make a ton of sense to get it, but I just really like the way the three gauge pillar looks. Thats really the only reason I want to go with gauges.

cumminalong - What is the difference between a fuel pressure gauge and a rail pressure gauge? I assumed they messured the same thing. Whats the benefit of getting the rail pressure gauge over the fuel pressure gauge?

thanks for all the info and help fellas

Travis

The fuel pressure gauge monitors the low pressure side going from the lift pump to the high pressure injection pump. This will let you know if the lift pump is crapping out and forcing your injection pump to draw it's own fuel. If this happens, your injection pump will be history fairly quick.

The rail pressure gauge monitors the pressure at the fuel rail, after the injection pump. This will tell you if you are getting to close to the blow off pressure and or running the rail dry. Both are bad news.

Both are important, but running the fuel rail dry (which shouldn't be a problem with the XZT) or worse, running the pressure TOO high is bad juju.

The rail pressure gauge is gonna run a bit more than the fuel pressure gauge.

Chewy,

Yah I know what you mean. I love the look of analog gauges too. I have a Autometer boost gauge in an SRT10 pillar and a Edge Attitude for the other stuff. I am thinking of doing a headliner pod with Fuel Press, After Turbo EGT, and rail pressure.

Chewy,

You could do a combo Boost/EGT guage and still get rail pressure, trans temp in a three pod pillar cofiguration.

Nope I don't. I have the Attitude from Edge. Doesn't show as much as the Commander, but I wanted my turbo timer so I had to go with all Edge. I am thinking of selling the Edge in favor of a Smarty - TST stack with the Commander for gauges. But then I get into the whole el-explodo tranny thing. Figure I should keep what I have until the tranny says goodnight. Then I might get an Allison 6 spd from Sun Coast.
