Inside of the 36" Diamond Eye muffler...

Overall, I'm glad I ordered the extra muffler and not just the Aero. I have just the Aero on it right now and that friggin thing is LOUD. It drone's like a demon in the cab. It's all the way back where the OEM muffler was and I do not like it AT ALL. That thing will give you a headache quick. Spools up like a demon though..

I'll be installing the Diamond Eyein front of it tonight. Hopefully that smooths it out. If not, I'll be putting the stocker back on.

And yes, it's a 4040XL

I ran it for a few seconds with jsut strait pipes............It sounded like butt.

What I'm thinking is putting the muffler in front of the Aero to use some of that "vacuum" that it suppossedly creates to help pull through the muffler.

It that doesn't work out, I'll have the cat, then the muff, then the Aero.

If all else fails, back to stock exhaust. I do not want a loud drone in the cab. That was the one thing I wanted to avoid.

from what Ive read, having the aero as close to the turbo as possable(where the cat was) then the muffler after that reduces the drone to just about nothing.

Ive lived with the drone ever since I got my truck, line-xing the bed toned it down alot, but my deal is I'm turning such high RPM's on the highway it's just gunna be there. The drone from what I can figure is a mixture of the engine vibrating through the frame and the bed hitting some sort of harmonics that causes it.

Cool!

I'll try it up there. I didn't get a chance to mess with it last night. The mother-in-law is in town ([:@]) and the wife wanted to go to dinner. Soooooo....

We'll see tonight. I still have a ton of pipe to play with. They send the kit with enough extra pipe for every cab / bed config, so that's no issue.

once you have it installed, give it about a week before passing final judgement on performance, my 1st impression was "eh... it's ok" but after about 7~10 days of daily driving, I became pretty impressed.

Ohhhh, performance wise I really can't complain. I took it on a short 10 - 12 mile ride after I tightened things up and the difference in the spool time and responsiveness was right there.

The other thing that I noticed right off the bat was the EGT's on the higher settings. At idle and low speed it didn't make much of a difference, but once I put it up on level 3/5 I never hit my EGT limiter. The highest I saw was 1150, going uphill and gittin' it. On that side I can't complain.

I'm gonna mess with it tonight, try a few different things. I'm gonna move the Aero up where the cat was, install the muffler and see how that is. With that big 36" monster itshould smooth out a bit.

I don't so much care about the outside noise, but damn did that thing drone in the cab.

Go for it Drew. You will love the big rig sound, but beware when you turn your TST up and hammer down 'cuz it will break windows.

Like Steve said... I have mine "close" to were cat was.. one can just see the tail of my areo between the back of cab and front of the box. There is no "drone" at highway speed or for that fact at any "constant speed" only when ya get into her!! She sounds great when I start her up for the first time each morning!!! (cold engine starts rattle the windows across the street from me house!!!)
