Default That piece of s*** VP44

So, I had a new VP44 put in about 35k miles ago, because the first one did what they all do. Now, at high speeds ONLY after I fill the tank, I get the same "bucking" and poor performance. Its starting to get worse and I have a P0216 code. So, I suppose I'm in store for the inevitable. Do I have to get this same pump? Is there anything out there that is better? If I'm going to waste another grand on a VP44, well, maybe its time to get rid of this truck.

Cheers

I don't mean to get all mad, but, whew...it just really started happening on my way home today, almost didn't make it back home!
I just needed to vent!

Thanks

Have you replaced your fuel pump yet?

If so, with what?

yes, They replaced the "lift" pump when they did the injection pump. It was all under warranty the first go-around, but, unless the VP44 has some warranty I'm not aware of then, I'm footin' the bill this time.

Thanks

Why wouldn't the VP-44 still be under warranty?

What lift pump did you go with?

sounds like they put it in the tank. . .I dont think that design has enough to properly feed the VP44, much less the CP3.

the VP44 should have some sort of mileage warranty. . .if you do end up footing the bill take it to a good diesel performance shop. they will hook you up with stuff to keep it running WAY longer than 35K

Hmm. I dont know what lift pump they installed, I guess I didn't know I had an option. I have 120k miles on my truck, its no longer under warranty. Is their a Bosch warranty? Is it possible that this has anything to do with the return lines back to the fuel tank? This really only has been happening when the truck is over 3/4 full. If I don't top the tank off, nothing happens.

Thanks

That sounds whacked .... the needs to be 3/4 full thing. Hopefully Drew or someone else here has some input for ya, cause I'm at a loss that's for sure.

Yeah, 8 years? hmmm....I don't know about that. I'm going in monday to a dealership to see what they think. I just don't understand how Bosch got away with this pump, its sad when my wifes Chevy prism is outrunning my Ram....its a sad, sad day. I wish I would have read about this pump before buying this truck...damn. I was too worried about other features of the powerplant that I overlooked the injection pump...AHH

I've got over 90k on the original vp44 and lift pump. Lift pump is still pushing 9 psi at full fuel. I change the fuel filter every 5k and run stanadyne fuel additive. No problems yet. Knock on wood
