Default trans front band adjustment

It is suppose to be a T40 adjusting screw/bolt. -- YET- Mine is something -
Very different...
I tried to see it better, yet is'way Up in there..

It's just a bolt almost to the end, than 1/2'' of 4,5, or six sided bolt..
I've got to find out what will turn that bolt....someday..

Ive got the driver's side Up as far as I can get it..with my wooden blocks under the jack stands..
I don't have anything that will lift it high enough..'
Helll my 1-1/2 ton harbor freight floor jack has a hard time with it..
How can I get it Up higher? I used 8 pieces of wood under the jack stands..and I finally just got under the lower control arm..

I'm going to pull out both control arms..one side at a time...

I've got to rent the pickle fork...tonight, then start tomorrow..
Maybe I'll just change the trany fluid later....if I can't find out what kind of adjustment bolt I have..
IT's just not fair...all the info I could get says T40 ajusting bolt...
Oh-- not not for me...I've got to have some ????

I slid my findger across the end of it...IT FELT FLAT...on the end...

For the front band adjustment, I did mine with the wheels on the ground, laying on cardboard... not too high or difficult to reach like that.
In order to turn that t-40 screw you need to back off the 3/4 nut first, the number of turns as stated by instructions.
In one of your prior threads on this adjustment, (blackvan) mentioned that the screw end would be T-40 or could be a hex... I forget the size but think it's a #6 metric hex bit, look back through your earlier threads for that.

I'm not understanding why you are needing to raise your van at all for front band, if you need to then use ramps. For removing control arms seems all you need is jack it high enough to take the wheel n tire off n a jack stand for support...

Well I'm busy replacing the ball joints and tie rod ends..I've got the driver's side jacked Up as high I could get it..And was able to lower the lower control arm enough to let the coil spring out with out any problem..
The shock was hard to get the top released..it had not allen in the top bolt,,yet I finally found a way..
When I finish the ball joint project, I'll leave it Up, and go for the tranmission Flush and adjusting the bands..
Adjusting the one inside the trany..is going to be easy, YET the one on the outside is going to a nightmare...No way to get at it...with all the Exhaust and god knows what in the way...AND...the outside one has no T40 = It's just a bolt/screw with a square end..

SOoo I'll be going nut's trying to find a way to turn it.....
any advice on that would be appreciated //thanks

Exclamation Progress report

I changed Out the front end parts, With moog new control arms and tie'rod ends and links..
Now I need to get it down to the alignment shop..
I changed the trany fluid, and adjusted front - (outside) and rear -(inside) Bands. In both case's the bolt was a square end.- )not)- a t-40 or a hex bit. Just a bolt with a flat end that an 8mm open end ''kinda'' fit, just enough to turn.
But now the transmission is not working right, I can't caught a break..
It's just an old 97 van, that used to be an ambulance.
Now I've got to take it to the transmission shop. The dude says it'll be $250.oo to adjust it correctly....So I'll put it back Up on stands and drop the trany pan again,,,and try to do this again...Man it's hard to get this done with the everything in the way on the outside front band. I use a bunge to hold the one thing and take off the spring, still it's a night mare..
Front band , = Locknut 3/4'' or 19mm....
Back off nut- tighten bolt 72''lbs - Then loosen it 2 1/2 turns--retighten nut.
INside band-=Same tighten to 72'' lbs..loosen 3 turns..tighten nut...

I'll be doing this for the second time....Hope I get it right...
thanks..

Your specs are wrong.
For the kickdown band (outside):
32RH tighten to 72 in. lbs. and back off 2-1/4 turns
36RH, 46RH, 46RE tighten to 72 in. lbs. and back off 2-7/8 turns

For the low/reverse band (inside):
32RH tighten to 72 in. lbs. and back off 4 turns
36RH, 46RH, 46RE tighten to 72 in. lbs. and back off 2 turns

thanks Alloro,, would you know what tool to use to fit the low/reverse inside band??

On mine there is no T40 outside band bolt= It is the same as the inside bolt.

Do you know what tool will fit it???

Mine was a square head bolt and a hexagon locknut so I didn't need anything special. I just used a 12-point socket on the bolt.

I have the the square head on both outside and inside, and I've tried everything no luck..
I have the 3/4'' locknut on the outside and a 11/16'' on the inside lock nut..

I just read about 5/16'' 8 point being the right socket for the square head bolt...
I've got one on order from ACE it will be here thursday ..WE will see..
I've got my fingers crossed....

I wonder if a 9/32 will fit on the square screw that one of these might work... Sillcock key found at most any hardware stores plumbing tools dept for less than $10. The 1/4 end for the torque ratchet and 9/32 is opposite end for the screw? Just needs room enough for it to turn, or cut the unneeded 2 sides off or knock it separate if that can be done w/o damaging the combo you need, just thinking...
