Default Stranded in mexico! Help!

Hola,
okay enough of the crap.
Heres the skinny, we have a 1989 b250. 5.2l TBi.
When coming to a stop, the idle would drop to zero and stall.
We brought it to a shop and they blocked the egr and detached the vacuum hose from the fuel pressure regulator.
That seemed to stop it from dying at stops but it smells rich and the idle is a bit rough.
Does anyone know why reattaching the vacuum line to the FPR would cause it to die instantly now?
We bought a new FPR and if I plug the hose in before starting the engine, the idle will surge once started but if I start it with it unplugged it's just a bit rough, no stall. Then if I plug it in after starting it, it dies instantly.
Fuel pressure test showed pressure dropping to zero when foot comes off the pedal. (With everything hooked up)
Can anyone give advice?
Newer parts include
injectors
FPR
plugs
wires
O2 sensor
TPS
EGR

I tried a new FPR, a spare MAP sensor and a spare TPS but nothing changes.
Does the PCM or ECU need to be reset before installing any of these?

Okay I get that it stalls at idle, but what about when driving with the vacuum hose and EGR connected? Does it drive normal and only stall at idle, or when coming to a stop, or does it drive badly?

Then it's probably just a bad idle speed motor.

I replaced the idle speed motor with a spare one I had on hand (from a junkyard)
nothing changed. Does the ecu have to relearn anything after installing new parts?
Will it take a few hours of driving for it to steady the idle?

The
ECM should be able to control the idle motor right away. You sure the used idle motor is good?

not positive but they both seem to function.
After seeing two mechanics here's where we are; cat removed, egr blocked off and the fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose is disconnected and plug with a screw. It runs great like this, no stalling. BUT! If I plug the vacuum hose back into the FPR while it's running, it stalls immediately. If I plug it in before starting the engine, then start it, idle will surge pretty hard, sometimes stalling and sometimes it will eventually even out. When it does stabilize, if I put it in gear it stalls instantly.
Right now I'm running it without the FPR vacuum hose attached. Not by choice but by necessity.
I hope my description makes it easier to diagnose because we're kinda at the end of our leash with this.
Thanks for your help.

Try replacing the Idle Air Control valve. It's like $20 and comes with a lifetime warranty from the auto parts store. Mine failed and it behaved exactly the same. Ran fine if I was on the gas, idled for crap.

Best of luck.
