Default 2002 ram 1500 van 5.2 v8

Would there be a 44re or 46 re behind the engine and how can i tell the difference please?
If it is a 46re what years are interchangeable?
Is this a 44 or 46 re transmission?

They're identical except for the lower gearing in the 46re. The only way to be sure it to look for numbers on the tranny.

I'm pretty sure they only but 46's in the vans... :-)

If you want to be sure, the numbers to look up are on a plate right behind the lower transmission line in your picture it'll be like "pk" and half dozen numbers and letters after that... Also, my original van transmission had a sticker on e top that you could see with the doghouse removed... they're the same numbers...

You're assuming it's the original tranny.

The 2002 carries a different part number. Has anyone ever put a 2002-2003 46re an an earlier van? 1996-2001?

I put a 2000 46RE in my 2003...but I swapped the wiring harnesses, the PCM, the TCM and upgraded to a v8.
I did have an weird issues...I am unsure why this happened (i think the tranny I got was rebuilt) because there are two temp sensors for a 2000 transmission.
I had the wrong one so overdrive would never work. I had to take it to a tranny shop to figure this out...but yea...swapped the sensor with the right one and now OD with lockup works great!

I am... and unless someone pulled a bonehead move and put a 44re or 42re in it, it's probably a 46re...

to the OP did you check the numbers on the side to be sure?
