1997 B3500 VAn 5.9.
Burned up the original trans and just got done installing an upgraded one.

First drive, I have no speedo (Speedo worked fine even with bad trans)
Put about 5 miles on and during return I got a speed sensor Code.
I replaced the tail shaft sensor and NO Difference.
Guess I got my speed sensors congused.

I just unplugged the Speedo Sensor to make sure we reinstalled the drive Pinion.
We did. Factory red one.

UMMM.. Test Speedo sensor or replace?
It came from the original trans and this is the original OD tail housing
??? Thoughts>

 

Was the drive gear for the VSS on the output shaft of the trans? Do you have the VSS clocked correctly? (that's what the marks on the trans are for, should correspond to the number of teeth on the driven gear.)

 

YEs, I checked and the gear is in it. Red with 36 teeth.
Turned so the 33-38 tab pointing at the "nipple" cast indicator at 6 oclock. \Heave you tested the sensor?
Even after reclocking I get the VSS Code

 

Is there a gear on the output shaft of the trans, to DRIVE that red gear though.
