Default 2003 5.9 magnum cam swap ?

So I’m finally getting my new heads in from EQ cylinder heads with the factory ones being cracked. With the new heads I’m installing a new timing chain as the motor is at 300 k’s but now thinking with the front being apart maybe camshaft swap light reading on this says the truck roller cam is most one can go but curious if or what others have swapped I to their 5.9 and was it worth it and what would some recommend for this 2003 Ram Van that will haul a decent load of tools. “Note” I’d sacrifice a little power for the wonderful sound of camshaft overlap lol

Will need a tune to run an aggressive cam. And the kegger intake is not good for upper rpm power. You can put in a cam that will still work with the factory tune but it won't have a lope.

They say on the head specs the springs are good for up to 450 lift ? Does anyone have a fav brand of cam company for these engines.

Thanks

Look for a cam with the specs you want. Many manufacturers out there. Most of 'em are acceptable.

Keep in mind, the engine was designed for low-end torque, not high end power. An aggressive cam won't run worth beans with the stock intake.

Yes... and no..... About the only one that you can get easily any more is the hughes air-gap manifold for magnum engines. It ain't cheap, and requires some modification of the fuel rails to fit properly. Used to be, everyone and their cousin made manifolds for these engines, but, since they have been out of production for 20 years or so... not so much any more. Mopar used to make the M1 in 2 and 4 bbl versions, but, finding one of those these days, is a stroke of purest luck. Even with the hughes intake, you need a custom tune to take full advantage of it....

Probably the same cam. If not, maybe a bit more low end torque with the truck cam.... but, I doubt it would be anything noticeable.

The 5.2 and 5.9 cams aren’t the same, for the most part.
