i just bought a 2006 dodge ram 1500. it has a 4.7 litre V8 and i have some questions. i just bought the truck and switched the oil to Mobil 1. Was that a good decision on oil? what are some cheap ways i can give my 4.7 litre more horsepower......(cheap).under $1500.

Flex-A-Lite electric fan, headers, exhaust, intake, hotter coil. Oil would be Royal Purple hands down.

Hi csyflt and welcome to dodgeforum.
With a budget of $1500, the amount of extra horsepower you can get really depends on how good you are with the wrench [sm=smiley2.gif] If you're going with the programmer, the best complimentary mod would probably be an after market exhaust, custom air intake, electric fan, taller gearing in the back and a 180 degree thermostat. The last two can be very expensive if you have to bring it in to have them done since much of the cost is in labour, parts are relatively cheap. And if you are really good with the wrench, you simply can not beat a cam swap.
As with anything else, the price will vary quite a bit by brand. For exhaust work, see if there is a shop in town that will custom fabricate one for you. This tends to be slightly cheaper than going with a pre-fab off-the-shelf exhaust and will produce slightly more hp (especially if they use a mandrel bend). For air intakes and e-fans, check out www.airram.com they specialize in moding Rams and Rams only and their sales staff tends to be knowledgeable and helpfull. For gearing, I don't really have any experience (mine came with 3.92 gears), so hopefully someone else will chime in. For the t-stat, seach for posts by member HankL, one of his posts gives brand and part number information.
Download the manual for your truck from http://hemitruckclub.com/Manuals/2006-DR.zip and see how much work a cam install is to get a feeling for how hard it might be.
As for numbers, I really couldn't tell you what kind of gains you're likely to see in a 4.7, but on my Hemi the chip added about 19 crank hp, 9 rwhp (rear wheel horse power), the exhaust (true 3" from the cats to single 70 series flowmaster) added another 8 rwhp. Don't have an intake, but dyno results show +/- 1 rwhp. Don't have any numbers for e-fan and t-stat, and the gearing will not add any hp, but it will feel like you've added a whole bunch![Big Grin](https://dodgeforum.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
