Default Flashing "Check Engine" light...

I've noticed in the last two weeks that when the engine is warm, the "Check Engine" light flashes very briefly every 45 seconds to a minute. It's almost too fast to see it flash, even. I don't think it's even on for a quarter-second.

The REALLY strange thing about this is that while my cruise control is on and holding a speed, it turns itself off when the light flashes.

I don't have the time right now to take it in to the dealer, and I've checked just about everything I can check that might cause the light to illuminate (gas cap, etc).

Anyone have any ideas??

Thanks.

BTW It's a 2003 Hemi QC 2WD with only 12,000 miles on it.

Each time the "check engine" light flashes, a code is being stored in the PCM. This means you nead to take it to someone (dealer) for service, it's under warranty right? so no charge. Take it in ASAP as you may be causing damage by driving it like this.[:@] Service departments get all bent out of shape about check engine lights doing this and usually advise you to shut it down and tow it in! (this is why cruise contol turns off). 95% of the time it is something that wont cause damage, but why take the chance?

Check out the first two posts and see which one pertains to your truck. NOTE* the post with just the codes you have to turn the ignition on to the run not START 3 times in 5 secs. then it will post the code/codes in the odometer, when you get the numbers look them up here in this link.

I didn't know you could do that on the newer trucks[sm=smiley20.gif], thought you needed a code reader.

Everything newer than 1997 is OBD2, as are most 1996s iirc.

My CEL started flashing in my VW, along with extremely reduced power, so I immediately pulled over and shut it down. The owner's manual said to go ahead and keep driving it "at reduced power levels". Turns out it was a coil that went bad so I was running on 3 cyls in limp mode.

Alright, so I finally got around to checking this thing out with the above directions. Here's what I found.

After putting it into diagnostic mode (which is I guess what it's called), I got the following code only:

P0591

Referring to the service codes in the General Tech forum, I found that this particular code wasn't listed. However, it is a "500-series" code, which would make it a speed control/idle control issue.

Anyone have any further information regarding that specific code?

Thanks in advance.

p0591 is speed control switch #2 performance. The right side speed controlswitch on your steering wheel needs to be changed.Warranty will cover it.
