All I've got to say is that when I'm in my HEMI, the only trucks I worry about are the Lightning and Harley-Davidson. I also have the 20"s and I like them better because they don't spin very much, the 17"s on my 4.7 spin more than the tires on the HEMI.

Can I borrow your cummins then? BTW the article claims the Titan out accelerates and out pulls the Dodge as well loaded. On paper it really doesn't surprise me considering the hemi puts out peak torque close to 1000 rpm higher. Yes they are trucks and not race cars. But then again how many people actually use their trucks as intended.

Hi all,

Been away for a while, but just had to comment on my favorite topic.

Yes, Apples to Apples (Crew cab versus Crew Cab) The Titan will edge the Ram. (It's in black and white at Car and Driver).

But don't expect many here to echo what you read. They'll tell you they can smoke you with their regular cab that's modded out.

That's not why I bought the Titan though. I was looking for something more dependable than my last mopars, with better gas mileage, and more interior cab room. Choice was simple, Ford or Titan, and I went with the Nissan design with extra power and a bold new look so I don't blend in with all them fords.

I came very close to buying the Titan. What really turned me off was how easy the interior plastic would scratch, on the doors, dash, etc. Right out of the factory it was scratched. My wife ran her finger nail accross the door and it scratched....chepa like my Kia which looks 5 years older than it is... The seats are made out of polyester and nylon, great for inciting the roids over a long haul....those seats won't breathe, your *** will be hot and bothered............to each his own............

Here's the fun part...I just got home from a night of hell(ie:dent in truck). Had the pleasure of spankin a Titan on the road..
Light green...go and show...no titan at the next...oh wait here he is for another...another light...no Titan...I drive a 4.7 and no Titan...Oh wait guy follows me home and wants to buy me a beer...this is scary... but the guy just traded a HEMI for this truck and I dont know what to think of him so I bought him a beer(out of my garage fridge)to drown his sorrow in trading in the Dodge on account of the wife... Worse than the dent I suffered this morning.........

The Titan's Endurance V8 is a close competitor with a HEMI with 300+ hp and 375 lb ft of torque, with a lighter body and faster throttle response. Although Nissan by design its still a muscular V8. Now I love dodges more then life itself and would take a dodge any day over any truck, but the titan is a pretty good truck. Lets just take a quote from car and driver...
"No single vehicle was used as a target, says Larry Dominique, Nissan’s chief product specialist for the Titan. Thus, when Nissan invited us to drive an early-development Titan mule, the company had on hand a Chevy Silverado, a Ford F-150, and a Dodge Ram for comparison. And when we had driven all the vehicles back-to-back, we could tell, for one thing, that the Titan’s throttle response and engine power were modeled pretty directly on those of the Chevy Silverado, which has an aggressive throttle tip-in and vigorous launch to attract younger drivers.

When we brought up that subject with Nissan’s assembled engineers, they conceded they’d had to come up with a separate—and more sedate—throttle map for low-range four-wheel-drive use. But regardless of personal throttle-response preferences, there should be little criticism of the 300-plus-hp, 5.6-liter Endurance V-8 (its output wasn’t finalized at press time) used throughout the Titan line.

With more than 90 percent of its 375-plus pound-feet of torque available from 2500 rpm, the big four-cam V-8 is almost guaranteed to find lifelong devotees among truck owners—particularly as the five-speed automatic it is teamed with offers perhaps the quickest kickdown response and smoothest shift transitions in the field."

Curb weight: 4700–4950 lb
C/D-estimated performance (rear-drive):
Zero to 60 mph: 7.0 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 21.2 sec
Standing 1/4-mile: 15.5 sec @ 91 mph
Thank you car and driver, here is the link to the article i quoted from http://caranddriver.com/article.asp?...&page_number=1

while the hemi on the other hand...
"The Ram can’t quite match the quick Nissan, but it easily opens daylight on the others: 0 to 60 in eight flat, clearing the quarter in 16.2 seconds at 86 mph."
The ram weighing in approximatly 5400+ lbs. http://caranddriver.com/article.asp?...&page_number=5

All this information is for the 04 Titan crew cab short bed with Endurance 5.6 L V8 4x4, and an 04 ram crew cab short bed 1500 HEMI 4x4 with 20" rims.

Apparently Nissan wanted to have a sporty fast pickup where as dodge centers theirs more on towing. Maximum towing difference between the two trucks being about 1000 lbs.

Hope this settles some things, although i know it just makes many more questions.

One thing you didn't mention. The Titan is a butt ugly, plastic mobile. IMO.

I would concur on the Titan engine, it is ultra responsive and sounds awesome..for many this might be a challenge, it is very tempting to put the metal to the pedal on this truck! I still opted for the Dodge, they have a much longer track record, and build a great truck.
