Hi All,

I am in the process of joining the Mopar/Dodge family by purchasing a 1500 QC this weekend. I do have one question, that I hope I can get an answer on. What is the difference in performance or quality between the 17 wheels and 20 inch wheels. If I am basing my decesion souly on what I like..its the 20's, but I would like to make a smart decesion as well. IF anyone can shed some light that would be great as well as suggestions or personal preference. Just a little info....I plan to use the truck to tow, everyday driver, light off roading(nothing entense yet), and hauling.

I bought my truck with the 17's then upgraded to the stock chrome 20's. The 20's handle extremely well and look alot better but are substancially heavier than the 17's. They give you a harder ride also(tire profile). I've been pricing tires for both and the 20's are VERY expensive compared to the 17's. I don't do any towing so I can't help you there. Hope this helps you.

 

I"ve read the 17's are .1-.2 seconds quicker in the quarter than the 20's. I had the opportunity to compare the weight and the 20's are considerably heavier than the 17's as already stated.

Personally, I opted for the 17's in exchange for the 20's that the truck came stock with.

Looks, that's it. The 17s are a better all around choice, the extra sidewall comes in handy for off-roading and hauling, and the engine doesn't have to work as hard to turn the wheels.

Benefit of 20's is in cornering and (to some) looks. I prefer a beefy tire on a wheel that doesn't make the brakes look like toys. 26" wheels make your stock 13" (or whatever) rotors look hot, yo.

If you're going to do any off-roading, and you don't plan on running 40" tires, go for the 17's.

To put it a little more in perspective, my Dakota came with 16" wheels. I put 15" wheels on and saved about $40 per tire. 17's are even more expensive than 16's, and 20's a lot more so. Plus there are far more choices for tires in the 17" size.

 

Will 16 fit on an 05 ?

17s is the smallest wheel that will fit a 3rd gen Ram.
