Default regular vs quad cab

for those of you who have owned both, which do you prefer? is the roominess worth the extra weight, fewer mpg and slight decrease in speed?
i am currently contemplating two vehicles:
both 2001 ram 1500 4x4 5 speed 5.2L
first one - reg cab with 50k miles
second one - quad cab with 61k miles both priced around the same

reg cab would be faster and funner to drive, but the extra room comes in quite handy, almost like a second trunk except used as primary due to convenience yet the gas mileage would hurt more.

I've had three regular cab rams, a 97, 99 and my 2003. I don't want or need a Quad Cab, i'm only 21 and can fit all my beer behind the seat of my ram. Plus, when it's time to go out.....all my friends can drive themselves! lol

Agreed. If I ever have the need to carry more then 1-2 people with me everyday (like wife and kids) then it's time to get a second car or truck and I'll keep my reg cab

I havent had a reg cab Dodge, but have had others, and Being 6'3 360-370, i like the extra room of the quad cab. I like being able to go out of town, and my stuff fits in the cab, doesnt get wet, or snowed on. As for speed dif, and mpg .. i doubt it would be that much different.. i dont know, havetn taken mine to the track, or care about mpg. Foot to the floor all the time.

I like the looks of the single cab, but since I have a wife and a baby I opted for the quad cab. When I bought my Ram it was either the quad cab or a Honda. I think I made the right choice in my quad.

Gained performance is worth the decrease in cargo space, besides, that's what the bed is for.
Uh WHAT!?!?!? Maybe it's me, but if I wanted "performance" I would not have bought a pickup truck! Single cab, Quad cab or anything else.

If you are getting a truck it should be to take advantage of owning a big truck, with tons of room and towing capacity. My buddy bought a regular cab 2002 Ram and kicked himself for a year and 15,000 miles till he traded up for a quad cab last month.
I mean, I love having a HEMI and all, but to kid yourself that these trucks are actually sporty is pretty silly. The brakes are marginal, the chassis wobbles and the whole thing leans like a Navy carrier during sea trials when you go around a bend. Not to mention that they still weigh over 2,000lbs more than anything that should be allowed to have "performance" in the same sentence.
I drove my wife's VW Passat Wagon 5 speed today and it was more sporty, fun and better handling, hands down.

If you want a truck, go for a quad cab. If you want perfomance, get a car or a motorcycle.

The quad cab is definitely the way to go, especially if it is the same price. Having that rear seat to stow gear, to sleep on, or anything else you want to do is great. I can never go back to a standard cab. Not to mention the ability to pump up your sound system. Thats just me though.
