The best tank i got so far was 14.7 in my reg cab 4X2. I think that my mods offset each other; I put on aftermarket 20's and exhaust and the mileage is the same. I think this is the only area that makes me wish I bought a Chevy. Let me restate so i don't get flamed by 20 people that is the only area, I love my Dodge!

I had 38,500 miles on my 2002 Ram QC 4x2 with 4.7L, 20" wheels and 3.92 limited slip rear end when I traded it in. Best average MPG I ever got was 15.2 on a road trip to PA from TX. In my regular driving (about 80% highway 20% city driving) I averaged around 13-13.5 MPG when I babied it. I had no mods on the truck. Needless to say, the MPG wasn't very good and I was frankly a little upset with it, considering Dodge claims 14 city and 19 highway on that truck.

My new 2004 Ram QC 2500 4x4 diesel, now that does better. Just rolled 1,000 miles on the odometer yesterday and it's already getting 17 MPG in combined driving. 150 mile highway run netted me 18.2 MPG. Once it gets broken in, I'm guessing it'll go 19 MPG in combined driving, over 20 on the highway. This truck is nearly 7,000 pounds, 4-wheel drive and has almost 100 more HP and more than double the torque...lol. Of course, it was also double the price!. Then again, diesel is about 15-20 cents a gallon cheaper than gas as well. I'll be driving a diesel pickup till the day I die....no more gassers for me!!!

2005 Ram 4.7 Quad Cab w/Off Road package, about 40,000 miles, averaging about 15.9mpg. I live in the country, so its a lot of 50-55mph driving, but it is up and down hills. Got about 19 on a trip from here to Rhode Island a few months back on the highway. Mods are custom dual exhaust, Volant cold Air intake, and throttle body spacer. Also changed tires when stock wore out to BFG TA/KO's size 285/75/17 (don't come in 275/70). Looking at the rest of the mileages, looks like the mods are paying off.
