Default Free higher MPG

I was under the hood of my 02 R/T and i noticed that it had a great ram air setup for the intake except for one problem... the intake runs straight to where the hood closes... absolutly NO airflow to the intake... So i took it off.
I went from 18.9 mpg to over 20mpg just from taking it off. I live in MI where it has been about 10 degrees..
The intake taken off give the engine a bit more of a kick and a bit more sound... and mpg... just eats through air filters... upgrading to K&N soon... any other suggestions on how to get the most possible mpg on the R/T?? also does anybody know if the Tornado works any??

is there a step by step instruction process you followed to take it off?
like what parts did you take off and what did you leave on.

that "scoop" is held on by two pop-on connectors...you simply pull the center up with a small screwdriver, and they come right out. i believe that the rest is just snapped together. with my exhaust, lower t-stat, and CAI and a K&N filter, ive gotten 28mpg on trips.

The tornado is accepted as totally worthless. Save your money.

I've heard good things from the tornado.... so im still on the fence on it. When you take it off, just take off the screws... then just pull the tube out of the airbox.... just be ready to chew through air filters... i'd highly reccomend getting a K&N filter....

DO NOT waste your money on a tornado...

Along with the fact that they are placebo, there have also been incidences of them falling apart and damaging engines.

I’m sorry to say that if you have heard good about the tornado, then it has come from a salesman, or inexperienced source, not a mechanic or true race enthusiast.
Please visit/join your local car clubs, and get to know those that actually set cars up for something other than bling factor. You will get far more accurate information there.
Show up at a track with one and you will be laughed at.

Sorry, no offence intended.

alrighty then... i'll take your word for it. Im just lookin to up my city mpg... not race it or anything... and isure as hell dont want it breaking apart in my engine....i am up to 20.something with the intake pipe off, i just now dropped a K&N filter in it, im hoping that will bring it up to about 21 ish... im not too concerned about freeway... since im rarly on it. Also i cant wait for warmer weather so i might be gettin better mpg... this weekend its gonna be 50, i cant wait!....
