was it loud, like a leaking exaust gasket or did it miss and run like a lawnmower sounds?
even though it's only a half a tooth off, that may be what's wrong. as the motor runs the belt streeeches. in operation it may be as much as 1-1/2 teeth off (that's the reason for the cam position sensor). the CPS can only compensate for so much "play" which may be the reason your car runs bad. let us know the deal, good luck.

no bent valves before i pulled head off it made that noise because timing was not correct.head was puled and took to machine shop and no bent valves.

the "timing" is controlled by the computer. what makes you think the timing is/was off? lots of thing can make your car run like junk. don't mean it's junk, could be an elect prob. write back.

there i two types of timing your ignition timing an your cam timing, to time th cams you need to make sure both of he cam timing marks are EXACTLY DEAD ON CENTER wih eachother and the crank marks need to be also. to make sure it is right, rotate the the ening around twice by hand and check to see if evrything i lined up, if it is your timed, if not move whatever cog is of in on tooth increments until it's good. in som of the 2.4's you need a DRBIII to relearn the the cams so the spark timing and cam sensor are calibrated, but on the older ones(like mine) you just need to let it run for a whil until it relearns itself. i hope this more in depth explaination has helped
