97 Intrepid is sick?
Hello All.......I have a 1997 Intrepid that is running very poorly. It started with a rough idle but rapidly got so bad that it will barely run. It sounds like two or ? cylinders keep dropping out and back in again.
Code scanner says it's a bad TP sensor or TPS circuit. The car has slightly over 100 K miles so I replaced the TP sensor along with all four oxy sensors and the air charge temperature sensor. The spark strength is very good, MAP sensor is good, the EGR valve is clean and functioning, fuel system is fine, and small parts (Plugs, hoses, pcv valve, etc) are all fine.
It still runs bad and the code scanner still shows a bad TP sensor. I checked the sensor and the circuit back to the two computers and it's fine. I have no way to check the computers except by replacing them and that's an expensive test!
Any ideas???
Thanks, Mac.

Yup...Cleared the codes but they re-appear almost instantly. Also, one more symptom that was showing up: It would start to run worse as it warmed up until it reached a point where it was really bad. If I turned it off and then re-started it right away, it would run fine for a minute or two and then get bad again. However, now it's to the point where it runs awful all of the time. Thanks, Mac.
what engine does it have if its a 2.7 yikes if not well
lets see if its got alot of miles maybe your piston rings are shot you might be better off getting a pro to check it out before going to deep sorry to say.
if its a 2.7 sorry to hear it they are very sensitive engines and when they dont get ataken care of they go bang real fast

hmm well then 3.5 is a great engine the only other thing i can think of is the computer may the prob but something like that is like 200 dollars ask a local dealer about what it might cost to diagnose it a 100 bucks their may be worth it if you want to keep it
Change the coil pack and the plug wires.. My wifes 93 eagle had the same problem... checked the plug wires and they tested ok, with an Ohm meter.. when I did some other work on it I through a set of plugs and plug wires at it and the miss and rough idle went away..

All good suggestions above. Also, how do you know MAP is good? Several sensors run off the same reference wire from PCM-if one shorts out the others can go to hell, too. Check for fuel leaks at the rail-there is a recall that may apply to your car. Good luck!
