Default True Duals =Lost power? 04 hem

I installed true duals leaving the converter on my 04-5.7 ram QC .2.5 into (two) 50 series flowmasters exiting into a 3' - "y" straight out of the back. Sounds great! however i believe i lost some bottom end...seems i have to step further on the accelerator to get the same response...Is it me because it was quieter before? i dont know......im gonna work on it some more on fri...any ideas how i can get back pressure back? single exhaust? smaller straight pipe ? heres the pics</P>

MY BOY ALL U HAVE THERE IS A SINGLE EXHUAST WITH TWO MUFFLERS A TRUE DUAL EXHUAST DOES AWAY WITH THE CAT AND HAS TWO EXIT PIPES I BELIVE YOU WHEN YOU SAY U LOST POWER U SHOULD HAVE STAYED WITH THE STOCK SET UP IF U WERE GOING TO DO IT LIKE THAT IT WOULD WORK GOOD IF YOU WOULD PUT DUAL EXIT PIPES I SEE YOU HAVE THE SPOILER IN BACK BUT YOU COULD GET CREATIVE AND CUT SOME SLOTS AND DRESS IT UP AND U WOULD BE IN BUSSINESS GET RID OF THAT SINGLE EXIT PIPE AND GO WITH TWO AND YOU WILL FEEL A DIFFERENCE!

True duals simply means one exhaust pipe for each side of the engine, with or without catalytic converters. True duals never merge into one pipe. The only time true duals ever cross is when an H-pipe or X-pipe is installed, and in this case they still do not merge into one single pipe.

As far as the low end power loss, you have increased the exhaust flow , but not enough to have lost much power. The fact that you have the original catalytic converter still on it and that it merges into a single pipe, will provide sufficient back pressure. Have you reset the computer? You must do this after any modification so that the computer can compensate for the changes and make full use of them. If not, then disconnect the battery for 5 minutes and then reconnect it. This will put the computer in learn mode. This should get back your low end performance. If it does not, then you will have to reduce the exhaust size.

Hey thanks for the info...the reason i had not gotten creative is because if that ground effects piece is mistakenly cut wrong it can not be replaced without buying the entire accent kit!! (Dodge OEM)not worth the $700.00 chance. I appreciate the info.I have really opened up this system, however i am told that I do not have enough back pressure there is too much flow.....go figure ......Illdisconnect the battery first since thats the easist to do....I amclear on the "true Duals" sorry about that , also each exhaust comes straight back from the header each having catal. converters to individual mufflers i believe they are 2.5 pipes .Upon exiting there is a 3" wye and a 3" straight pipe exiting......I do believe less is best and maybe i should have left well enough along.....but either way whats done is done and of course im not done......the installer has been great to me and is willing to get me right i have been fortunate with that .......sooooo with that in mind? Ill keep you posted....hopefully it will helpmore of us with the outcome.....and anyone else thinking about true duals or jsut my kind of "true" duals...........<IMG src=smileys/smiley5.gif border="0"> hehehehe thanks again....stay tuned.......

What kind of induction do you have? It could be that it can now get the air out better than it can get it in. A performance computer could also make a huge difference since the exhaust flows better. Yes, do keep us updated on how it's coming along. <img border="0" src=smileys/smiley4.gif border="0"> <edited><editID>71ROADRUNNER</editID><editDate>38010.3601041667</editDate></edited>

Hey ...I was so frustrated with the duals after talking to a few more local mechanics that told me there was not anything out right now to increase HP and mpg and going with the duals was going to give me mpg/bottom end torque loss. I had the duals removed and went back to single exhaust 50 series (1 in and 1 out)darn-it! and it still sounds great! almost no difference there - believe it or not....... However my low end is back, which was important ...thank goodness. I am willing to wait for the superchips programmer......... I have factoryair (K&amp;N drop in) CAI is a priority for me upon finding theright one .....(shopping).I was also advised that i could get away withdrilling two to three 1" holes in the bottom/side of the boxon the pre-airfilter side. would help alot ....(Hmmmm). Anything more than that would give me a MOAN upon accel.......
Even After my time and expense on this projectIm willing to do it again only for HP and Bottom torque GAIN . And i do mean GAIN. (I have a friend that dualed his ford f-150 and of course it helped him)......go figure........but only after I have some facts and info. to back it up. I was not willing to ride around like it was ......it was terrible......like stepping on asoft sponge . till then? So any one thinking of doing the duals? might want to reconsider it unless they have more info.CAi? i dont know!!... If you get more info? Somebody, Somebody ........PLease email me......

man did the guy who did ur mufflers just open his shop, those bends are horrible, its like they just put it against a table and bent the tube into shape, sorry man, u probly paid some good money for that, besides here my local shop goes the extra mile for there customer and looks into upgraded the exhaust, they even let ya sample out the muffler so u dont waste ur money, i had a series 40 flowmaster installed the first 3 hours i had my truck and man i that it was sweet 3 days passed and i ran across a borla xr sports series muffler or sump'n, i know its a borla due to the bigg o name stamped into the side, anywho the borla blew the flowmaster into oblivion, the throttle response was greatly picked up and that deep throat i hate every other v-8 sound, purr'd through a 3.5 in piping vein under mi ram. I have also twiddled a around with removing the muffler completly and installing a strait pipe out the kaboos of my trash(truck) coming from that of course, man it was like a mad red neck truck rumblin krazy like. it made people look think ihad a hemi damn that 4.7 devilscreation, any ways my gas went way down to like 6 to 8 pergallon after that and it was back to the borla where its a 3.5 pipefrom to the factory exit. sorry for the post being so long

I feel you man..........that entire exhaust system was ripped back out and replaced headers back toa single 50 series flowmaster and 3" out the back.........sounds really deep and solid (not cheap) ...only hear it when i need too......thats what i needed (neighbors)...fuel mileage has dropped .3 mpg ....borla that much difference? Ill have to purchase online and have someone install.......not around here....only flowmasters.....These installeers in the lowcountry only push the products they sell....and becqause they sell it they always push there products as the better one...ya know?

did your buddy go with a dual from the (1) borla muffler (1 in and two out)or true duals and two mufflers? If it was true duals can you ask him if he gained/ lost performance/mpg? as you know I Haveexperienced both sides of the exhaust world with My truck. Having the duals and now the single exhaust....but thats life and if someone aids from it so be it!! I have benefited from other Dodge owners / forums as well................and I do not know anyone that has actually benefiting from the duals..............Not yet!Keep me posted please?</P>

thanks</P>
