Default cat-back question

Right now i've got the 50 series flowmaster on my Ram, but i've been thinking about upgrading to a full cat back system.
Is there a noticable difference in power with a cat back setup compared to just having the aftermarket muffler?
Would it be best to buy a full setup from a company or have the guy at the muffler shop weld in what he thinks will work?
What is a good company to go with? ive heard a borla catback on a 4.7 ram, and it sounded too much like my buddy's old honda just louder.
any input will be greatly appreciated

All the pipe on your Ram is mandrel bent. By changing the muffler you probably got all you can get out of modifying that section of pipe. I would be amazed if just reworking the pipe would get you anything worth the trouble. Hope this helps.

I agree with mopartodd. Focus on something else.

Go with the cat-back. They usually come larger than the factory, are mandrel bent and are heavily aluminized steel or stainless. So you win all around, improved performance, better sounding, better looking as well as longer lasting.[sm=smiley20.gif]

All of the cat-backs that i've seen run upwards of 450.00 the guy at the muffler shop quoted me 330.00 for new piping and everything. i guess if it doesn't make much difference i'll just keep saving for the headers. thanks

Does your muffler shup have a mandrel bender? If so, then save the $$$ and go with them.

Yeah. my buddy just got a gibson cat-back system with new headers on his durango and it sounds pretty good. It all just seems like way too much money for something that i won't notice much of a difference in. i guess i'll save for my lift first.

The exhaust on a hemi ram is mandrel bent stainless 3in. (huge) If you put in a dual you actualy loose power because your exhaust has to travel that much farther, just get the headers. Cat backs are a big rip off!

It all depends on the design of it. Some are great and will yield very noticable gains and other just plain suck and can actually hurt performance.

It would be incredibly hard to improve on the existing system from the cats back. They do work on some vehicles, but what comes standard on the Ram is nice. If you have the money, get a set of headers. DC did leave some power on the table there.
