Default Turbo Timer.

I would like to get some info from you guys on what turbo timer you feel is the best out there for the SRT4.

I would like to here about the features, ease of install and price. I am getting sick of sitting in my car for 3 mins before shutting her off.

Thanks in advance.

Normal driving shouldn't get your engine hot enough to require extended cooling down...on those occasions when I DO push it hard enough for the turbo to need some time to cool, I just leave the car running while I take out the groceries or whatever....then shut it off. I pop the hood as well since it aids the cooling and serves as a reminder for me to check the oil, the OCC, OCC hose clamps, etc.

There are a lot out there for our car. Greddy, HKS, Apexi, Blitz. I went with the Greddy actually. The only PITA is running a speed wire to the front of the car, but only took me about 20 min because I like to do everything all nice and clean. I guess the Blitz is suppose to be the easiest to install. I guess it grabs its self sensing for auto cooldown from the alternator signal running through the power wires. I guess the only bad thing is if you put extra load on the alt, it increases cooldown time. You really don't need the auto sensing feature on any turbo timer (speed wire on greddy). I just have mine preset to 3:00 and thats it. If you are good with electronics, it will take you about 1 hour max to do the install. That includes removing the center console.

http://www.exhaustdepot.net/electronics.html - They have a install kit and CD-Rom for an extra $15 that includes everything to do the install in 30min. I didn't go this route, bought mine new on EBay for $80.

Yeah very good point. But im considering the price of the turbo timer, 80-200$ if i can find one for a decent price it will be worth it as a preventive measure.

don't even worry about that "get a co2 system with sprayers. Keeping it cool at all times , well a lot cooler. EXTRA BOOST "the horse power "

totally disagree..... a co2 system cools your intercooler temp making yor intake temp lower. the reason you have a turbo timer is to cool your oil.

Do you do this every time you drive it, let it idle for 3 minutes? The only time you need to let it sit and idle to cool down is if you were just running it hard or if you just got off the freeway and pulled into someplace where your going to shut it off. Other than that you can get where your going and just shut it off. Now if the SRT-4 wasn't intercooled then you might have to do that all the time, but because they are intercooled you only need to do it if your shutting it off right after running it hard or running at freeway speeds. If you get off the freeway and hit a red light or two before you get where your going to shut it off, then you can just shut it off and you don't need to wait.

A lot of people are under the impression that they need to sit and let it idle every single time before they shut it off which isn't true. If you read your owners manual it tells you exactly when you should and how long to wait before shutting it off. It basically says what I have here, but I think they say the time to wait is around 30 seconds and I never said how long. I personally gauge it by how it has been ran prior to shut down and I usually just wait until the temperature gauge drop back down to at or below the 200 degree mark, but it is mainly based on how it has been ran.

I personally don't see any point in getting a turbo timer unless you race it often and don't want to sit and wait in the car for it's cooldown. I would put the money towards other mods instead.

I usally let it idle and gather things out of the car. Check the mail or what not then shut it off. not all the time but when i was driving hard, or on the freeway. Its not a mod Im planning on doing soon, but I just wanted to get info about them for future refrence. Thank you guys for the input!

i have the blitz turbo timer. i got it because it can self program, and it makes it a lot easier. basically it judges the time that the car has spend over a preset rpm (it has 3 settings, you decide which is best for you) and then determines how long the car should sit at idle for. sometimes it decides that my car doesn't need to sit, other times it keeps it on for up to 2 minutes. it depends on how i've been driving the car, and with the guys around here i often end up driving it very hard!

a lot of people think that a turbo timer is a waste of money, but the way i see it is that it's a preventative tool. it doesn't hurt to let the car cool down, and in the long run can only help by allowing the turbo time to cool, even if some think that it's not necessary.
