Stage one and short ram mods
Hey Guys and Girls, My first time on the forum. I have an 04 SRT-4 and I put stage one in. I liked the quicker response, but seat of the pants did not impress me. However, I added the three inch short ram intake last weekend, and holy ****!!! It feels like more of a kick than the stage one! Is it my imagination, or does this really wake up the turbo. I swear it spools quicker, and i'm getting a pound or two more of boost. The computer has not compensated for the extra boost either. It is running a solid 14-16 psi, even up to 5500rpm. Am I imagining more power or what?
Plus, traction is a major issue now. I'm thinking of putting 225/40-17's on. Any suggestions????
Pictures to come soon. I work at a Dodge dealer, so I get alot of inside scoop from engineering.
I'll tell you, I had two Daytona turbos, a SD455 Formula Firebird (1974, I wish I still had it), and vaious other cars. This little SRT is a blast!!!! BUT I NEED TRACTION!!! 1st gear is a waste, second is pretty hairy in colder weather too. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

welcome to the forum we are always glad to see new people...
I am not sure with the intake and stage one info that you asked, but there are several people on here that can answer that for you. But I can tell you about some tires i found. Mickey Thompson now has E/T streets that will fit the srt... That is simply a street legal slick. If that won't give you traction, nothing will. Now as for the treadwear rating on those tires, I don't know, but it is probably not very good. Mickey Thompson and one other make street legal slicks that look fantastic. MT has a few to chose from too and they are very well priced.

those new mt street slicks are only good for like 5k, just like any other dr out there (that's really what the street slick is, a borderline legal dr).
traction is always a problem, and on the street bigger tires are your only option. i would go with a 225/45 over a 40, this will keep it closer to the stock ratio. there are some very good tires out there that can give you good traction, but it depends on how much you want to spend.
as for the extra boost, yes, it's very possible you're seeing it. you'll hear the turbo a lot more with an intake as well. put on an exhaust and see what happens.....

A short ram isn't going to add that much "kick" due to the fact that it's drawing in the same hot air that is already in the engine bay.
Are you disconnecting the negative battery terminal for at least 2 hours whenever you make a mod change on your SRT-4? If not, your PCM may not be "learning" the change and your car will run the same as it did before you spent the money and invested the time. You may want to invest in a Mopar/Borla Exhaust to round out your mods.....(be sure to do the battery thing after that, as well).

I have the SAME mod's as you.............& YES!..........i found the same results.........the shorty intake, REALLY woke my car up after installin the stage 1,..........& like yourself, i burn rubber all the way through 2nd. gear................WHAT A RUSH!!________5TOEZ________w/some more traction im SURE i'd be in the 13's(14.05 @102mph soo far)
When I talked to Modern Performance in Feb about the Stage 1, they recommended an hour. With the cold weather, I added more time, to be on the safe side. Never heard of the key trick, though.....

I haven't heard about the key trick either. The owners manual I believe says you only need to disconnect the battery for 5 minutes to reset it, but I would leave it disconnected longer than that.
Actually the best way to reset your pcm is this way: disconnect the positive from the battery and use a wrench or screw driver and touch both the negative (leave the negative connected to the battery) and postive connectors (make sure the positive isn't touching the battery) hold it for atleast 5 seconds and this discharges all the information. Your car will run like a bat out of hell afterwards. I proved this at the track and although the et doesn't reflect much the mph does (which tells me I'm putting down more hp). Before the reset (this is at a 1000 foot track..no not altitude) 11.64 at 93mph and after the reset 11.61 at 95mph and I must note that wheel hop and tire spin increased after the reset so it might have been faster.
I used to do the "unplug" and sit and wait but it doesn't work as good. Just try it and see.
ps-with my spring mod I was seeing 16-17psi of boost. It took my computer about 3 days to finally figure everything out but the best time to run it at the track is right after the reset. enjoy.
