Default Turbo Timers

I was just wondering if a turbo timer is a must have. If so what kind is the best?

No. I highly recommend that you send your money elsewhere. If you run the car hard alot or if it sees lots of track time, then you might want to get one. Other than that it is a total waste of money. If you read your owners manual they give you instructions on when and how long you should let it idle to cool down before you shut it off. Read the manual and what it says first, and then if you feel that you still need one then get one. To me I see it as a total waste of my money that can be used for far better modifications that will make a difference.

i use one, and i would recommend it for anyone that doesn't have the time or patience to sit around in their car for 3 minutes every time you drive it. i have better things to do than sit in the car waiting for it to cool down, so i just let the turbo timer do it for me. it's nice at the track too, or if you're particularly hard on the car in everyday driving.

is it necessary? no. but it's a nice piece of insurance for longevity purposes. i don't think it's a waste of money, but that's just me.

The manual states that you need to let the car cool down for 3 minutes after hard driving. Is it necessary that I let my car cool down if I don't drive it hard?

No it is not necessary to run the car if you are just driving normal. The only time you need to run it is if the car was ran hard just prior to shutting it off.

This is my first turbo. What is the exact reason that you have to cool the turbo down this way. What will happen if you don't cool it down properly. Sorry for the dumb question.

I always TT my car. The only time I don't is when I'm on base because the speed limits vary between 15mph - 35mph. I figure that's not enough to mess with the Turbo. However, I know I was talking a while ago about which one to get because I get ADD sittin' in the car. I need to decide. BABY HELP!!! The other day, I went to get my hair done. I pull up, sittin' there lettin' it TT and some dude walks up to the window and he's all 'do you need me to pull forward a little', I'm all 'no sir, I'm just lettin' her cool down'. He looked at me really confused. So, I had to go through the whole story of a Turbo and Turbo Timing. Last night when I got home my neighbors were having a party, I left it running while I said hi and some drunk dork was like 'you left your car on' and I said, ' it's ok, it's a Dodge '... You can tell drunk people anything. LOL!!!

ANY HOO!!! I think I'd much rather get looked at funny for walking away with my car still running than looked at funny for sitting there with my thumb up my butt whistlin' dixie...

The reason for a turbo timer is that your turbo is oil lubed so when you engine has been run hard the oil temp goes up and if you turn the car off with the hot oil in the turbo it will wear the life of it down. so letting it run lets the oil circulate and cool.
