this is going to be my 1st tranny fluid change how much do i need my car has 60,000 miles
i bot a gallon of ATF 4 and a bottle of royay purple synchromax
but i dont know if thats right can use the oe stuff and use the rp synchromax *** a friction modifier???

Put 4 ounces of the friction modifier in first, then top it off with about 2.5 quartsof the ATF-4.....

As you will see from the above link, a lot of people use different friction modifiers......

Friction modifier, and top off with synchromax. this is full synthetic. Change mine at 18,000. Then Ichanged at 50,000, still looked brand new.

 

i change out the tranny fluid every 15k. looked good both times. first change i used the mopar additive, second time i used another brand

 

to answer the question, no synchromesh is not the same thing as friction modifier. if you were going to use all synchromesh then you wouldn't necessarily need extra fm, but if you're going to use mopar atf then you need a seperate fm. you can get it at any dealer.

 

I got mine(modifier) from the dealer...his price ...$4.95 for the bottle.

 

Personally when I do mine Im going straight royal purple, I wrote them and they said that many people have added the fm with their syncromax and runs fine or have run straight syncromax and never had a problem. I love the way it perfored in the SXT trans, course no posi in it
