Default Oil in intercooler.

I don't know if its the heavy right foot, to many mods or sometning is going on the way out. I put the SRT-4 on the rack getting ready to put in the tranny, i was removing the aftermarket intercooler to replace it with the stock one(To see if it was leaking, lost 7 psi of boost someplace) and to my surprise it had about a quart or less of oil in it and the stock unit was clean through an though(About 900 miles on the stock around 65 to 7000 on the aftermarket) What bugs me is that i have a "real catch can" and one up on that i plugged the PCV line off, because i got tired of draining the catch can. I called a bud of mine up who owns a '03 with no mods(Wife won't let him raise the hood)to bring it over and let me put it up on the rack. The first thing i noticed on his with about 23,000 miles is that oil was actually dripping from the intercooler pressure pipe, both of them, the one from the turbo to the intercooler, and from the intercooler to the TB. Well here we have year apart SRT-4's one moded, one stock, one with a catch can(and a plugged PCV) and one withoutwith the same problem. Me personally i think Mitsu handed Dodge some bad Turbo's to make the SRT-4 look bad and the evo look good! Let's sound off, everyone. And anybody who has replaced the turbo( With a non mitsu unit), do you still have oil in the intercooler or catch can?

As I'm sure you already know, with almost any upgrades the warranty is void on the turbo. <img border="0" src=smileys/smiley5.gif border="0">

Yeah, 71ROADRUNNER, sounds like another "typo" or, if it was me, they'd say I had a "senior moment". The National Meet shall tell the truth...damn (sorry), this is getting better than the Super Bowl!!</P>

I wish I could be there for the meet, but it's just a bit too far for me. <img border="0" src=smileys/smiley5.gif border="0">

<FONT size=2> "<STRONG style="FONT-WEIGHT: 400">T[/b]urbo charged engines are prone to accumulation of an oil sludge mixture forming inside the intake tract. Horsepower is increased by eliminating the engines current requirement to try and reburn this relatively noncombustible oil. Engine longevity is lengthen due to this oil not having the ability to gum up the valve train, turbo charger, and various other moving parts and sensors. Intercooler efficiency is also increased. The thin film of oil coating the inside of the intercooler will insulate the air to air exchange and lower the ability of the intercooler to cool the intake air charge"</FONT></P>

<FONT size=2>I went to the dealer with my bud who has the 03 srt-4. The tech was like,"uh yeah all turbo cars do that." He told us above word for word on how to fix it then it dawned on me were i had read it at before. But my problem is why didn't he come out and say buy a catch can from perrin or whoever and why didn't dodge put one on it in the first place?</FONT></P>

My Shelby Z has just a slight film of oil on the inside of the lower intercooler hose and have never noticed a drop in the oil level. I have heard alot of people talking about some measureable amounts in the intercooler hose and intercooler on the SRT-4's, what did they do wrong? <img border="0" src=smileys/smiley5.gif border="0"> <edited><editID>71ROADRUNNER</editID><editDate>38012.9996759259</editDate></edited>

<IMG src=uploads/andybuzz2u/DC3ZD_DSC00044.JPG border="0">It's there sorry excuse for a PCV valve. That's the whole problem. I plugged mine off permanetly and that was the end to the black exhaust tips, loseing a 1/2 quart between oil changes and that cold morning blue smoke as it tried to burn oil like an old v-8. Here is two pics one of the intercooler to TB hose(pre mod with 1356 on it i think) and the other one is the 20 dollar catch can i had on it.<IMG src=uploads/andybuzz2u/D7FZ4_DSC00062.JPG border="0">

I wonder if it's because of the synthetic oil from the factory. Maybe it's caused by the synthetic not allowing the parts to break-in and seat properly. I know that some cars come from the factory with synthetics, but maybe the turbo is creating too much pressure/vacuum and the synthetic is too slick. Just a thought.

The PCV hose plugs into the intake manifold just after the TB so i'm sure it has some 20hg+ vacum going on there, esp under full boost. I got an email out to my bud at chrysler, but no reply yet. I'm willing to bet its the first recall/replace that comes out on the srt-4 don't know of any other problems as big as this. But who knows maybe they no something we don't and my engine is going to blow from not haveing no top lube....lol
