a couple notes..when youre at the drag strip...make sure you line yourself up in the water, in the burned in tracks...keep the car in first gear...feathering the throttle until you get some smoke kicking up...street tires shouldnt need much...and ease the ebrake handle down...and keeping it in first gear, but let it spin them out of the water box with the brake off..push the clutch in, and stop SHORT OF THE BEAMS....the biggest newbie dumba$$ move is smoking the tires through the staging beams with a street car...its cool when the 8 second cars do it...when teh street legal cars do it, its just silly...

wheel hop is what breaks axels on most cars- ive only owned 1 car that broke them with torqe alone and that was because the axels where to weak for the power. i dont see srt-4s with that problem tho unless your in the high 400's(Hp) maybe.

i only got solid mounts a few weeks ago, until then i had inserts. i've never had wheel hop during a burn out, just lots of smoke. you guys are maybe not dumping it from a high enough rmp
it could also be that your track doesnt put a generous portion of VHT down PSIChick? i know the tracks at which i make most of my non-national series runs, they put down a TON of VHT...which is likely how everything will wheel hop...
hell, there was some douche there last year with some tired appearance kit mustang...roush maybe...and it had side pipes...he kept pullin around the water box to do his burnouts, and it was so sticky, all he was doing was letting it wheel hop..over and over and over...on his 3rd or 4th run...he did a big dry hop..then backed up and did it again...and he broke the exhaust hangers on BOTH sides...later in the night..while doing the SAME thing..with the exhaust bouncing around off the bottom of the car and in his last dry hop of the night, it fried the clutch...so i stook proudly at teh emergency dump road on the doorsill of my car and clapped as they hooked him to the wrecker...

i was actually talking about doing burn outs on street tires on the street, not the track. but now that you mention that, i race at englishtown, and they prep really well and i've never had a problem their either, although i've only done burn outs at the track on dr's (no need to on street tires).
DRs? what type of DRs are you talking? generally DRs are still technically "street tires"...and i have always felt that with any tire, at least a quick burnout is necessary, if nothing else, to get the road debris that is picked up in the pit area, such as dust and cinders, prior to a run.
on the street i can see your point to an extent, because the street footing is usually poor enough that a car with as much power as the SRT4 should be able to spin pretty much endlessly..i thought we were talking about the track because i dont do alot of burnouts on the street...my bad.

yes, they're technically street tires, but i don't use them on a daily basis, only at the track. i'm currently using bf goodrich g-force t/a, 225/50R15. i'm looking to get a set of m&h 235/60R15 cheater slicks in the near future. on street tires at the track i don't brun out, i'll just give it a quick spin or two to clean them, but not enough to heat them at all.
hmmm..intersting...when you launch with regular streeters, do you find that you get better/worse/no change in traction without heating them up?
i got better traction when i did not heat them up. i found that if i did heat them they tended to get slick rather than sticky, and my 60' showed it. when i heated the tires, i would do 2.3-2.4, and on cold tires i was pulling 2.1's.
hmmm..interesting...i found that with the mirada on any kind of treaded tire..if i didnt roast them i would bake them to at least the 60' mark...with the RT i like to do a big burnout because it only runs 16.1s, and its slow whether i heat them or not.
I had wheel hop doing it with my '99 Neon R/T, but I never had it in my '88 Shelby Z for the first few years, then it started to develop it. I've never tried doing a burnout in my SRT-4, but I know I get plenty of wheel hop when it spins them when I take off. My Roadrunner has never had even the slightest bit of wheel hop.
