damn dude. we feel your pain. especially us who have been in that situation. good luck getting it repaired and have faith, a good body shop can work wonders and get that sweet car back on the road.
The picture doesn't do it justice. The bumper is just a shell, and the drivers side corner is a void straight back to where the pole ended up, probably 1.5 to 2 feet in. You should have seen how many little shattered bits were on the ground. A lot of stuff in there was oblitterated. The headlight and foglight are pretty much vaporized(seriously - they were like dust). Couldn't open the drivers side door more than 2 inches. Even the pass side front quarter panel is tweaked badly. It's gonna' need a whole new body from the doors forward, I am sure.
'Preciate the sypmathy, though. It is starting to set in now, and I am bummed. I really screwed my baby up.
Oh yeah - and to dig the knife in even further, my new wheels and tires are sched. to arrive at the office tomorrow.[sm=smiley19.gif]

I feel your pain 110%. I caused 12,000 dollars worth of damage to my baby with a guardrail. I was without him for 3 months. I really wish the best for you with it all. I've been there before. How did it happen if you don't mind me asking?
Looking at it mine looked a bit worse, but the guardrail didn't go 1.5-2 feet in. It just pushed everything back into the firewall, and I had no airbag deployment.
Looking at my car today, unless I told you it was almost totaled, you'd absolutely never know. There are body shops out there that are amazing, and I'm sure you'll find one.
Again, good luck hunn, keep us posted on how this turns out for you.

). Here is a good shot of the culprit.

Basically, they have been doing work on my parking garage at work for 2 years now. Today they decided to divert everyone out the entrance, because the offramp was closed for repair. I stopped by the lot attendant, and waited for the rush hour ped. traffic to pass by. When It was clear, I looked around carefully and went to turn left out of the garage. All of a sudden ------CRUNCH. I slammed into a sign post sitting in the way. It stopped me so fast I hit the top of my head on the windshield, since I was leaned forward to see aound the turn.
After 15 years of driving; training classes, tracktime, racing, killing it every day, this is how I crash my car. I feel so stupid.
In my defense, the pole was damn near invisible in front of the grey building detail, and wasn't marked in any way. Since the traffic flow never exits there, the left turn issue was never addressed. They didn't even have a cone out there to mark it(well they did 5 minutes after I hit it - the one in the shot wasn't there). I am sure I'll be going after either the garage or the construction company that closed the ramp.
So - I can't say it was anything exciting like a guardrail; I was probably going under 5 mph, since I was stopped 10 feet before it. I guess I hit the perfect spot, but I find that a little disturbing. I wonder what would happen to the car if it hit a pole like this a lot harder.
What really boggles my mind is how bad it was; you wouldn't believe the damage from a small impact like that. I swear it should have been a creased bumper, not a new front end.
I am probably looking at 8-10k, plus all the aftermarket stuff I have to replace, like intake, stb, carbon relay cover, fuel rail cover, clear corners, grilles, piaa everywhere, eyelids...you know the deal.
I almost wish I did something more spectacular, hitting a pole at low speed is just lame(even if I don't think it was my fault). WTF!!!!!
Yeah that really sucks but like lil spark said, body shops can do amazing things. Hope you're ok.
My wife and baby boy were hit in our '95 Neon (rh side doors and rear qtr) back in '96 by a big diesel truck at relatively slow speeds that spun her 90 degees and shot her up onto the curb where she got high centered (wife and boy ok, but traumatized) and she could not move the car completely out of the busy Las Vegas street. She got my boy out and they were in the adjacent parking lot while the authorities were being called and minutes later a city bus comes by and clips off the back bumper and lh rear tail lt. Naturally, I was glad they were ok, but I was sure the car was a total. (This was not my wifes fault and luckily some good samaritans stuck around for the police report.) (We ended up with claims against both the trucking co. and the city trans dept.) Anyway, after about 3 weeks of driving a loaner PINK Hyundai (could it get any worse?) the car was done. I couldn't believe it. 2 new door skins, a new rear qtr, 2 new tail lts, new rear bumper and a whole lotta bangin and weldin and it looked pretty darn good. The car drove great, perfect. The only thing that was never "right" was the feel of the rh rear window when you crunk it up or down. It was a little stiff. My car cost a little over 14k back then and I think the damage total was close to 9k.
I know all this doesn't matter to you right now but we're just trying to say we've been there too and it does suck.
Was it Fast times or Ferris Bueller where someone said "don't worry my dads a TV repairman and he's got a bitchin set of tools....we can fix it"?
BTW, I do see your point on how that pole looks invisible.

BOOO!!! sorry about the luck Post!! It's amazing how much damage that stupid little pole did at such low speeds!!! Hopefully it gets fixed or they get you a new one!!! [:@]
Sorry bout the crash. Glad noone was hurt. Stories like these make me want to get the rental car insurance for collision, 3 month wait, ouch. You will be surprised at the cost of replacement parts. A buddy crashed hard in his 99' vert z28 ss, the hood alone was over 3G, wheels came in at like 1200 a piece. They stopped adding at 19g. please keep us informed on how much these parts cost.
sounds like something my wife would do.
good luck.... at least you will have new clean rims to put on your car once they replace half of it.
Get out the lube if your using your insurnace too.
Good luck
