Default Pretty funny

I was down at Cecil County Dragway on Friday to get in a couple of runs.

Anyway - I was sitting there waiting in the pre-stage lanes, when a kid with a beat up red 'teg came up to me and started yapping. Real hick'ey kid, too. He asked me what I was running. I told him I was new at dragracing and that I hit a 13.2 my first time out.

He said "that's okay, but 'my friend' has one that'll do 11 flat." I said "wow that is fast" "what does he have done?" - here is where the hilarity starts:

His reply was "you know-an aem intake, a cat back exhaust, and a stage 4 turbo."

All i could say was "wow"11 seconds is fast".

It took every bit of self control I had to stop from laughing out loud.

He then proceded to cut a 17+ second 1/4.

Why do some people lie? Especially about a car they have no clue about to someone who obviously owns one.

Pretty funny - I had to share the experience.

BTW - what a lame track - there were guys running 4 wheelers and dirt bikes with studded tires, hahahaha...the track didn't even care if you had a helmet on when you raced.

Crazy. I would have had to say something about the stage 4. An open class (500cc) dirt bike geared right with street tires can run a pretty good 1/4.

That's crazy. I would hope the owner of the track took the time out to get liability insurance.......

At the track I go to they run quads, motorcycles (both crotch rockets and harleys), and snowmobiles. Most the time they are pretty fast. I've seen some of the crotch rockets run in the high single digits. What cracks me up was when they had bracket racing going my friend beat like a 9 second crotch rocket with a run of like 14.1 or 14.2 because she got closer to the time she dialed. The guy wasn't that happy. LOL.

there are certain turbo upgrades that are done in stages. ex: the gt40/t350 that agp offers is called a stage 5. and the 76 trim is called a stage 3. so it is possible that he has a stage 4 turbo, just not a mopar performance stage 4 turbo. stage 4's i believe are a .63 a/r if i remember right....

Yeah, the last time I was at Martin, Mi., they had the snowmobile clubs racing. They were running both pavement and grass drags (adjacent to the track) simultaneously. The fastest pavement sled was one that looked almost stock as compared to the very radical bodywork on most of the sleds. It was a 4 stroke yamaha (rsx ?) I believe. He didn't have any fancy external starter or pit crew help him up to the line. He just sat patiently in the staging lane and when signaled, hits the elec start and burbles into the staging lane. Then he proceeds to rip off a mid 7 second qtr at 150 plus! WOW! I guess he had some kind of blower and juice. The dirt sleds were almost as fun to watch as they race 3 at a time.
When I raced down at Atmore Alabamas 1/8 mile, they ran 3 wheelers, dirt bikes, cars whatever. It was fun being the only crotch rocket rider there most times.
As far as the subject of why people talk about stuff they don't know about. I don't know, but my favorite used to be someone who knows someone who has a 440 hemi. Not that it couldn't be, but you know what I mean.......

I hear ya' Amy, but there was no way this kid was sophisticated enough to have a clue about all that. He did the ol' look up to the left and bit his lip while he was telling me...lots of tells that he was just a lying kid. He was making up the intake stuff - it was obvious. I am sure you know what I am talking about.

On the dirtbikes, 4 wheelers... I am not talking fast ones. We are talking about 60-70 mph 1/4 mi traps and around 17-18 seconds at best. There were little 12 year old(i would guess) kids running them on the strip getting timeslips at the booth. And I don't care how you slice it, letting people run at your track without helmets is just stupid.

I am as open minded as anyone, and I would get a kick out of seeing those fast snowmobiles (I have heard what they can do) and fast dirtbikes. That was just not the case, here.
