Default valves that blow off

Question:

I have learned a lot about this car since owning it, but there is still something that I'm really unfamiliar with. Blow off valves. I know they don't really do anything, but I still want one. I am placing an order for some parts in about three weeks and one of the things I am ordering is going to be a blow off valve.

Now,,,,,I don't want the blue plate thing because I am worried that it will have a boost leak. Here is what I am looking for in a blow off valve:

1) Not a whistle like sound. More of a lower frequency type of sound. The blue plate has the sound I want.
2) One that will not leak.

Those are the only two things I really want in a blow off valve. Next question......If I get the blow off valve, do I have to get some kind of a block off plate for it? Do all blow off valves require a block off plate?

I will purchase the one that you all think best fits my criteria. Thanks for the help!

All REAL blow off valves require the block off plate... You will need: BOV, upper intercooler pipe, flange on intercooler pipe specific to your BOV, block off plate. The only 2 that don't require a pipe and BOP are the mopar and the forge (i think) BOV's. If you want the bov sound vid, I can email it to you as an attatchment...

Huh??? Are you serious, AM????

Do you have to buy a kit or something with your blow off valve?

You have to buy the BOV and a upper intercooler pipe, a flange and a block off plate?

I didn't realize there was THAT much to it. I thought you bought the BOV and some kind of adaptor plate or something.

Thanks for the information.....I don't know if I want to do it now, though. I need to ponder on it.

the flange will come with the intercooler pipe, so it's not like you need to buy that seperately... The AGP pressure pipe is just one example (and the one I have) and it's 180, the block off plate is 15 bucks, and the bov depends which one you get. 200 max for the bov.

Also the MASF calculates the air before and after the turbo. With a BOV, the air that has been calculated is purged from the system causing the engine to run really really rich for the few moments the BOV is open. A little damage could be resulting. Block off plates would greatly reduce it, but no matter what, it is registering the air and it isn't there. Your O2 sensors would suffer too.

Okay,,,,let me get this straight.

Flange is on pipe. I just need to make sure the pipe has a flange on it. I do need the block off plate, though. Flange pipe will sell for 180 or so. Block off plate is 15 dollars. BOV is probably around 200ish. Therefore, the cool sound that I want is going to cost me 400 bucks????

This is a lot more than I thought it would be.

I have the blue plate, I've run 20psi no problem. $60 bucks, simple install, no need for a UPP/BOP or flange.

The one that sounds similar is the Greddy RS

I know,,,,I've been rethinking the blue plate thing. It's just that you hear sooooo many horror stories about it, but that sure seems like the thing I should do. Maybe if I bought one and took it to the dealer to install. More I think about it, the more I am thinking that may be the path to go down. Would I need a block off plate for it, too??? I know that PHR runs it on his car and doesn't have any leaking. Maybe if I just get it installed right it would work okay. That's a heckuva lot better solution than 400 dollars.

EDIT: am laughing....you said BOP in your post spark, but I didn't know what that was when I read it, but now I do....BOP=block off plate.....LOLOL.

200 dollars MAX for the bov, and that's if you get the top of the line (HKS, greddy-s, greddy-rs) brand new. Greddy RS can be found on ebay for 140-150, so if you get the upp new and bov off ebay, 335-345. Yeah, it's still kind of a lot...
