Default Newbie interested in an SRT4 question #1

Hey everyone, I wanted to ask about the
realistic longevity and reliability of
the SRT4's as a daily driver, does anyone
have a high miles car who drives it everyday?
Maybe 100k or more miles?
What are some of the things I should expect
if I get one, does the turbo hold up and the rest of the car?
Ive always thought the SRT4's are just awesome
little cars with so much potential and im seriousely
thinking of looking into
a lower miles 04-05 but its something I'll drive
daily and rely on for trasportation and fun
at the stoplights lol.
Thanks in advance for any info.

Welcome to the SRT-4 world...........I personally don't know of anyone who has 100,000 miles on their car. If you buy a SRT-4 with low miles that has a service record, warranty, and not too many radical mods, you can be fairly sure you're getting a good vehicle. It all depends on the owner(s) before you. The basic car from the factory is solid and well made. You want to look for an Oil Catch Can so that no oil has gotten into the throttle body and the intercooler. That shows the previous owner was smart enough to do some preventative maintenance.........

Thanks for the quick reply Dusty, hopefully
if I find a good clean one
and it doesnt have the catch can, I'll
get one and put it on, thanks for the tip!
Does it shorten the life of the turbo or something if
it doesnt have one?

Thanks,

Dan

*edit*
I ran a search and found all the info
on the catch can deal, thanks again!
Any other idiosyncrasies or little
problems/recals to know?

The spark plugs and especially the wires tend to get burned out by a few thousand miles. A set of MSD wires or the equal along with some better plugs and maybe a coil heat shield from one of our sponsors or Modern Performance will help a lot. Be sure to use full synthetic oil in the engine.....

Keeping up with your SRT-4 is like keeping up with a luxury vehicle. Always use premium gas (91 or better), check your plugs every 10k miles or so & top all your fluids. Even the most simple mistake such as not checking your oil can cause headaches. Other then that, all SRT-4's have their own personality.

My horse only plays well with others on 93 octane (prefers Chevron and a short nap after.......)

This car works very well as a daily driver. As stated, use the highest quality oils, higher octane gas and keep up with maintenance and you should be very happy. You also have to change the trans fluid a lot more often than the factory originally said. I changed mine at about 12,000 because the trans was so notchy. I used redline synthetic fluid without any other additives and now have about 20k on it and the trans is still slick, but I will probably change it again this year (with redline again) because I do occasionally race at the track and do grind a gear once in a while (I'll admit it). Even with all the abuse, my car has been flawless and has even pulled 242 hp on a dyno recently and is 99.9% stock. I cannot complain.
P.S. If you plan on racing, get AGP dogbone motor mounts.

I really think the seats are too hevily bolstered for a DD. I would look for the side airbag option if I had to do it again.

I drive about 60 miles/day and have no problem with the seats. Seats in my Mustang sucked.

I love the seats in this car! They are a big factor or me, they are comfortable and help in auto-x racing that I do.
