I took my car in because I think I have a bad injector and got a p0340 code that said I was misfiring on cylinder 4. I took it in and they said nothing was wrong. The exhaust was popping intermitenly at idle which was not normal.
Check all your fitting & vac lines for any leaks, carb cleaner will lower your idle if there a vac leak on the intake area, Good Luck

And starting fluid will make it rev up if it is used instead.

These spraying methods will show if you have any vacuum leaks and the carb & choke cleaner will lower the idle, and the starting fluid will definately cause the engine to rev up just like spraying it into the engine. I might just use starting fluid to check for any boost leaks by spraying it around the hose connections at the throttle body and the intercooler. This is an old trick for finding vacuum leaks and to see if the carburator or intake manifold gaskets are leaking.[sm=smiley2.gif] And no I'm not kidding.

Sorry I'm a newb when it comes to tricks like that. Not really sure how to do all that. I just had the check engine light come on so I have to take it in. Sucks to have it on but it came on before and I erased it. The dealer can't deny this one.

Any idea what caused it to come on?

byebye,

Have you pulled the codes to see what it is? If it's "loose gas cap" code, you might look silly

Also, how did you erase the code?

If you need to know how to pull the code, just say so, it's an easy procedure using just your ignition key, takes 5 seconds.

I think if it's the same code as before it said a misfire cylinder 4. I have done some research and it may be an injector. Hopefully that's it. I used a diagnostic tool from an autoparts store to check it. When I was done it asked if I wanted to erase the code and I hit yes on accident. I was in california at the time and didn't have time to take it to the dealer since it was leaving in a day. Since the code was gone the dealer here couldn't find anything wrong. I am kinda glad it came back on. It could also be a plug since both time right after I started the car I tapped the gas then it came on. I haven't tried to change the plug or the gap so I don't know if it's fouled. My exhaust has an intermitten pop and you can tell that it's not smooth because the car shakes intermittenly at idle also. The car runs strong still and I haven't lost any power. It idles fine too so I don't think it's that bad.
