Speed Limiter question
The "rubber scraper" is a black stip of rubber about 1 1/2" wide, maybe 3 feet long, under the front of the car by the intercooler...like an air dam.[&:]
Well I do know that every car that is sold in the USA has a speed limiter of some sort above and beyond the rev-limiter. The rev limiters job is just to protect the engine, not control top speed and that is why the goverment has manufactures install speed limiters. The SRT-4 according to Dodge does have this and they says it's limit is 148mph. Just thought this would be a very good question since most of the guys in hee have already done mods and I am still waiting on mine to get here.
Stopped by my dealer Saturday but did not have good or bad news, needed to get on computer and check on it. Hopefully I will get a call tomorrow with some sort of news.

I do have the "scraper" (replying to earlier discussion). I thaught i was @ full power after 1800 + miles... Hmmm, Ok then.

Roach, it's quite possible you were not making full power then.

05, I gotta ask what your source is on the speed limiter thing is. I can find no evidence of such a thing being madated by the fed or installed as a matter of course by manufacturers. I know a lot of vehicles do indeed have them. But in most cases, those limits are driven by the OEM tires, with the limiter being set to cut power before you reach the tires rated top end, say 110, with a lot of OEM tires having a 115mph rating.
Now, I know that both Japan and Germany have whats referred to as a "gentlemens agreement" between the govenrment and makers to limit top ends, with Germanys being 155mph, I believe, but those are not laws.
The neon acr has no speed limiter.
ACR stands for American Club Racing. It is a package available
for the base Neon sedan and coupe, and is intended for those who
want to race their Neon in SCCA events. The ACR is street legal. The
ACR is known to the dealers as the "Competition Group." The features
of the ACR package are:
* power assisted four-wheel disc brakes without ABS
* heavy-duty radiatory
* front (22mm) and rear (16mm) anti-roll bars
* unlimited speed engine control (no speed governor)
* power assisted 16:1 ratio steering
* alloy wheels standard
* performance geared 5-speed manual transmission
* heavier front hubs
* front camber adjustment
* upgraded wheel bearings
* 1997+ ACR models also include Koni adjustable struts
Either there is a loophole or there is no law for governers.
I would assume it has to do with keeping insurance rates down.

Your right there is no law about speed limits for the vehicle, the law is about the tires ability on the vehicle in most cases. The ACR Neon is not speed governed due to it being a competition car, just like Shelby's but take in mind that these cars do not have the potential to run over or near 150mph. Most all cars speed limiters can be changed by having the dealer flash program the ECM, not all can be eliminated though.
I know the german cars can be remapped to get rid of speed limiters. I have owned numerous VW's and I work on Porsche's for a living.
I have been in the Import scene for over 15 years and have built many turbo cars, have had many runins with trying to get rid of speed limiters on german and jap cars. This is my first american car I have owned, so I am trying to get as much info as I can on this vehicle. I knew that GM could flash the ECM's to change the liniters but the dealer's would not or could not remove them.

There is no speed limiter on the SRT-4. Aerodynamic drag is the only speed limiter on the srt-4. How many other cars have you driven that redlines in top gear......what i thought...One good thing about the S2 is its raising the rev limiter....more top mph for the speed freaks.
You're right about one thing, andy. There definitely is none.
I hit 158 (like an idiot)(I know better than to do this on public roads) but anyway, Last Night. The car would have maybe hit 160 or 162 - I was not pegged at the redline yet. I came up on traffic and didn't feel like it was worth pushing it any further.
(BTW at that speed it's amazing how hard you have to break when you come up on their ***.)
I also won't do that again w/o a helmet and cage.
