Default Speed Limiter question

I know the speed limit on these cars is limtied to 148mph by the computer but does the stage 1 or stage 2 computers change this to a higher limit or remove all together like most of chips or after-market computers(on other cars)?????

I could be mistaken but other than the rev limiter a don't think there's a top speed limiter. Sense most vehicle's with top speed limiter's usually cut out above the top speed (by killing gas or timing) . And to me it would be stupid to run two limiter's sense the rev limiter can do both job's. Unless they run 2 limiter's sense it's a stick. But a do know the stage 1-3 computer's raise the rev limiter. Any one else know any more?

Yes, they do indeed have a speed limiter. The factory says it is set at 148 MPH, but it appears that people who challenge this limiter reach around 153-155 MPH before the limiter kicks in. I believe that the Stage upgrade computers eliminate these speed limiters and raises the rev limiter.[sm=smiley2.gif]

No limiter, many folks in have reported speeds in excess of 155. Roach, SRT USAF out your way was the first, with a GPS verified 157, I think. Stage 1 does not change the rev limiter, Stage 2 raises the redline from 6250 to 6500.

Is that without any of the PCM upgrades? Dodges' site specifically says that it is limited to 148 MPH, but I know that some little things can change that and I've heard that newer cars are built with the speedo to read a few MPH's more than what they are actually going because of our lead feet in this country.[sm=smiley3.gif][sm=smiley36.gif]

Has anyone seen the 80 to 160mph video on the net? That guy pegs it out to 160 so it's not impossible. I have the video I don't remember where I got it. Probably srtforums.com. I also thought it was drag limited to 155 according to car and driver and other car magazines.

Good discussion here, maybe links to vids.
Roach, a few points to consider, headwinds, at those speeds, it could indeed be a factor, also, is your rubbery scraper installed? Also, how many miles did you have when you went for the stock run? We are pretty sure the cars take a while to make full power.

Headwinds: Tailwind when i had that speed (153) Tailwinds, for those dont know, is when winds are comin' from behind pushing you foward.
Rubber Scraper?: Not sure what it is/ probably not
Miles: I had over 1800 miles before i pushed her to 143 mph.

does it help on this discussion
