Rumors are circulating that NASCAR is considering two changes to the 2006 playoff system: an increase to 12 teams from 10 and a cap on the number of teams for a single owner.

NASCAR says this is not a reaction to Gordon not being a part of the playoffs and Roush owning 50 percent of the field, but change (both good and bad) is nearly always reactionary.

RE: 2006 Playoff rumors
I think that would be a good rule change and I AM a Jeff Gordon fan. Honestly, he didnt deserve to get in this year.....
Reasons why the rule change should be made
1. Limiting the amount of teams by 1 owner increases the competition and doesnt allow one team to have the best drivers.....
2. Limiting the amount of teams by 1 owner also removes certain drivers from competition....meaning maybe only the best 2 from each owner gets in.....thus forcing some drivers to different owners or forcing them to miss the Cup Chase....which I like...
3. Drivers who may have been victims of bad accidents would have an extra spot to make up some ground...
4. This forces team owners to stop monopolizing drivers....
If they made the limit on drivers per owner allowed in....I wonder if they would need to expand the field....If only the best 2 drivers from each owner gets in....then half the current 10 would probably be gone.....
I like the limit mainly because it starts making teams race rather then having teammates help you win by blocking out people... let's face it...if you have 3 guys on the same team in the top 3....do you really think another team's guy has a shot of making it to 1st?
I like the idea.....but I do think its reactionary to the Chase this year.....you have two of the bigger names in racing not in the chase and you have 2 teams with like 7 guys in the chase....

Rusty and Ryan hate each other and both of them are in. There was no team work there, EVER.
