Default 98 ram, laramie, 5.9, 4x4- Rer d-side brake has HIGH pitch squeal when pushing pedal

Hey you guys.
Got a problem! I put new rear shoes on both sides of the rear of truck. Had both drums turned by professional shop. Also put new AZ gold pads on front. Truck stops ex now!

Thing is, when I push the brake pedal, the rear drivers side squeals high, pitchy, like "hard type of squeal", so to speak? So I let off right away, and it stops squealing right away, and I can then hold down the brake pedal till it stops.

Most of the time. Sometimes I have to hit, let off, hit again, let off, over and over a couple times because it wants to keep doing the squeal thing! But usually it's just the 1 time, hit the brakes, squeal high/heavy/thick/hard type of squeal, let back off, hit brakes again right away till it stops.

I took em apart, put em back together. Checked the E-brake. It seems like it's working right. I'm sure I did em right. The left side don't do it either. It's pretty loud now so I thought I'd try to bother y'all and see what you guys think I should do next. Thanks for any suggestions!! (246k)

Are you sure its coming from the rear? If it will do it at low speed, see if someone can localize where it is coming from. I have never really had a problem with rears being noisy, unless they were badly worn.....

I know HeyYou, but it's def at the rear drivers side.
When I bought it that short time ago, the rear shoes were worn some, but not where they were so worn you'd replace em. I had to though.

The e-brake's silver clip thing and somethin else was just laying at the bottom of the brake drum when I pulled the drum off one day. I was searching for a sound I heard back there then! And found that! These pieces that were just laying down there and had worn 2 grooves into the drum. 2 perfect, deep grooves, all the way around the drum.

I obviously had to replace that Drum/shoe which made me have to replace the other perfectly functioning other side, the pass side. Y'all said I had to replace in pairs so no biggie, I did it, got the drums turned, everything was great for 3 or 4 weeks, but now, eeeeeeehhhh!, eeeeeehhhhh!, each time I push the pedal. Let off the pedal, instantly stops.

It's only after i've been riding around for a few. Like a few miles, and then it gets warmed up back there I guess, and thats when it starts. It's def only the rear drivers side...again.

Thanks HeyYou!

That's bizarre.....

Pull it apart, and see if anything obvious presents itself. Be sure to check the swept area on the shoes as well, as it may be as simple as something 'stuck' in the material.

Worst case, warranty replace the shoes, and toss some slightly higher quality fellers in there.

Did you have the front rotors turned also, or only the rear drums?

Only had the rear drums turned. I got AZ gold pads for the front. Like the 1 below the most expensive ones they sell, I think. I didnt get the cheapest pads they have for the front.

If you stick your head out the window when pushing the pedal, you'll hear that it's at the rear drivers brake.

Not getting the front turned could be your problem (I know you said the noise is in the rear).

When I took off the drum earlier, I felt the shoes. The left shoe was smooth until about half way down, then it got a little rough, not smooth anymore, and after that it went back to smooth before I got to the bottom of the shoe. The right shoe was smooth all the way. From the top to the bottom. No rougher in the middle, about half way down, like the left one. That mean anything at all?

Driver side making loud squeal sound when I push brake pedal. Stops when I let back off.

Nah, just a normal wear pattern. The smooth part is what is actually contacting the drum, the rest will smooth out over time as well.

Oh, ok, Thanks HeyYou, dbbd1!
The pic is of the driver side rear wheel. When I took off the drum just now, this is what I saw. Seems like I did it right?

So, I got someone to push the brake pedal(truck wasn't started, it was off) and as they pushed the pedal, the left shoe expanded out, all the way out. But, the right shoe- it didn't even move an inch!

And then, for some reason, he continued to push the pedal. He put pressure on it until it wouldnt go down any further! All I said was pump the brakes a couple times while I watch but nooooo! Oh well, when he was getting more pressure on the pedal, the left thing shot out of the wheel cylinder and fluid followed, spurting out fast!

And the right shoe finally expanded as far as the left was. Why did the right shoe not expand? Why'd the wheel cylinder's left thingy pop out of the cylinder, allowing fluid to leak? And this means I need to buy another new cylinder for that wheel? I bought that one from AZ.

I guess I need to go the parts store and get all new parts so I re-do this one from the start. Wheel cylinder, bag of springs, clips, etc?
Take it all apart and put it all back with new, AGAIN, and see if both the shoes expand this time, in sync, at the same time?
