Default What will fit???

I bought a 1998 24 valve Cummins 3/4 ton sight unseen...and I wished I'da looked a bit closer. I need to do a body swap.
what years will fit a 1998 3/4 ton chassis besides 1998???
Will a 1/2 ton body fit on to a 3/4 ton chassis?
Does it have to be the identical cab style?
Can I bolt the clutch stuff into a cab that had an automatic transmission?
should I keep the cab I have and just add the clip and box?
are all doors interchangeable?

Any from 95-02
Yes
If yours is a extended cab or quad cab or single can has to be the same cab
Yes
Up to you
No quad cab front door won't fit and extended cab and vise versa

Actually, the 95-97 cabs have a few differences. (and that's just considering the sheetmetal.... to say nothing of electronics, which are RADICALLY different.) 98-02 3/4 and 1 tons would make good donors, or 98 to 01 half tons.

What's the issue with the body, rust? You can get patch panels to replace the rotted out areas. Any pic's?

Seat mounts are different, seat belts are different, electronics are WAY different. If you swap the whole cab, including the interior, it will bolt on, but, you still have electronics issues.

Yeah forgot about that but I assumed he would take everything (except the dash) and just wire in his electronics. My seatbelt never worked when I bought all my trucks. Everything is plugged in so I got lucky always hated that annoying chime. I think I know when I don't have a seatbelt on

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the replies.
Just to clarify I would be months doing all the body panel repairs...there isn't a body panel on the truck that is rust /dent free. and we're not talking surface rust...I mean perforation style rust. I learned a lot about patch panels when I did a Gm square body. who knew that the door pillar was made up of about 7 layers of sheet metal all welded together. Hours to dissect that post and hours to realign and spot it all back together. ....BUT WORTH IT!!!! btw.
There are similiar aged 1500's for sale here w/o an engine for under 1K... and the body isnt bad.....
I'm hoping to get the cummins going again ....but use a not-bad body off a 1500 or a 2500 gasser.

Is 2002 too new?? it looks like the same body style.

seats and everything are coming over. My biggest issue would be ( I think) an automatic tranny cab ...and i still want to use the standard and clutch.

If I bring all the electronics form the '98 then everything should work eh??

Only a 2500 2002 will work. If it's an auto you have to cut a hole in the floor for the shifter. Should work yes
