Default 46RE Trans No Power P1763 P1762

My truck drives great until I get a check engine light and suddenly there's limited power, barely gets rolling from a stop, little better from 2nd gear on thru 3rd, won't go into OD.
If I clear the code the trans goes back to operating normal with good power.

I read this P1763 thread by member Total-War and there's a lot of good info.
https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...elievable.html

The code was popping up once a week but now it's popping up and going into limp mode every time I drive it.

This is my 2nd trans in this truck. Has about 100k miles on it. TC failed 2 years ago and was replaced with Precision of New Hampton converter, I installed new borg warner gov pressure sensor/solenoid, Sonnax Sure Cure shift kit, and band adjustment. Been working flawlessly till now.

I'm going to drop the pan and check the sensor screen, trans filter, and magnet. I still have my original sensor/solenoid so can swap them out if I don't see anything plugged up.

For now the truck is parked until I can look at it. Will update when I drop the pan. Really glad I installed that new pan with the drain plug!

P1762 Gov Press Sens Offset Volts Too Low or Hi
P1763 Governor Press Sens Volts Too Hi

That looks a lot like a failing/plugged up sensor...... (pressure sensor) Check both, see what they look like, if nothing is obvious, replacing both is probably the best plan.

Do you have a way to read live data when the problem occurs?

the lack of power ur experiencing is cause your truck is in limp mode. Meaning itll start in 2nd and disable overdrive. Replace your governor pressure sensor or check it out and clear codes.

I only have a simple obd reader, unable to read live data and wouldn't know what to look for. Good idea tho, think I'll take it to my transmission guy for him to read data before I pull the pan.

Well I had the truck at my transmission shop for a couple weeks but he never got around to looking at it. I brought it home and worked on it this weekend. Unfortunately I broke the plastic park neutral contact on the rooster comb. It was very brittle and I should have been more careful. I have a new one on the way.

I didn't see anything obviously wrong. Oil looked clean. little bit of shavings on the magnet. No particle or debris in the gov pressure sensors. I removed the borg warner set and put in the original sensors that I still have from when I upgraded them 2 years ago. They did not have any problems when I removed them so should be okay.

Just waiting on the rooster comb part and then I'll get it back together hopefully by next weekend. Then I'll see if problem persists.

Got the trans back together today. Took for a drive and no more codes, no limp mode. I also corrected a problem I caused with the kickdown. I wanted more sensitive kickdown to 3rd from OD, but i ended up causing later and harsher. I misunderstood the instructions. FYI: Don't use shims with the OE kickdown spring, that makes for harsher later kickdown. Earlier softer kickdown is achieved by using the Sonnax performance spring and shims. No shims with the Sonnax spring would be softest earliest. Right now I'm using The Sonnax spring and 1 shim, If I go back in again I will remove the shim for slightly softer, earlier kickdown, but if feels pretty good and way better.

Here's the new park-neutral insulator, got it on Ebay for $23. part #02801736 or Sonnax 22229-03K(same part), there are two different insulators so make sure to order the correct one.

I have a 1997 Dodge Dakota SLT 3.9L 2-WHEEL DRIVE, with a 42RE Transmission but I was getting P1762 Governor Pressure Sensor Offset Improper Voltage. It wouldn't shift out of first gear done it intermittent, and it really seemed to have weird problems, like coming up with different codes as misfiring and tried turning OD off but no avail. It would stall at the computer pigtails when pressed or wiggled, mainly white connector, but my problem WAS FIXED by buying a governor solenoid that holds 4-11mm bolts and 2- t20 screws, and governor pressure sensor off Ebay for $120. it took me and a friend about a hour to do whole job. First time I have ever worked this kind of tranny job, but after I put new filter in which holds 3-t20 screws, and gasket with sealer to hold the gasket in place while putting 10-15 1/2 bolts, be very careful to unplug the sensor plug and governor pressure solenoid plug. Afterwards I put in the ATF+4 (5 QRTS not 4), and when I started truck the check engine light went off immediately, took it for a test drive, I had more power, shifted perfect, and still shifts perfect. and I was just about to replace the computer that would cost here around $230-$270, glad I didn't. I have researched and researched countless forums. My advice is if your having similar problems and trouble codes of P1762 and P1763, do the governor pressure solenoid and sensor, filter and the right type of tranny fluid it calls for, before buying the computer unless the scanner tool wont read from computer. Hopes this helps someone, and don't be discourage about the kind of job, it was'nt really that bad, just messy. Just registered and type the code in and this post came up. The parts didn't look bad at all, but was completely worth it.ty
