Barn-Find Charger Is Peak MOPAR Excellence

We all dream of discovering a barn find MOPAR, like this 1970 Charger 383 last registered in 1982!

Car covers are the unsung heroes of the automotive world. Not only do they protect an investment (or hide it from nosey neighbors), but they also offer up imagination. Think about it for a minute. Have you driven by a car under a cover, and imagines what was under it? Most of the time, a familiar silhouette makes the cover taut, teasing us at what is obscured.

According to AutoEvolution, in 1982, someone parked this 1970 Charger. Judging by the condition of it, the owner likely threw a car cover atop of its first year Banana yellow paint. Maybe over the years it became a shelf in a garage. Now four decades later, it has reemerged. Regardless of the building that housed it, it’s a barn find through and through.

As equipped, this Charger sits right in the middle of the lineup. It’s not an R/T, but it’s above the base model inline 6. In fact, it has the 383 Magnum 4bbl V8 upgrade. According to HorsepowerMemories, that’s good for 335 horsepower and 425 tire shredding pound feet of torque. Original paint adds to the patina of the car, but surprisingly, there’s not much patina. Under the car there’s practically no significant aging. It looks like it was carefully driven for 12 years before being stowed in ’82.

Being that it’s not a super rare MOPAR, this kind of barn find is ideal for most enthusiasts. Fix it, drive it! It’s that simple. While we like the big dollar Chargers, sometimes a simple driver’s car is the better option. Want to take a casual cruise out to a local car show? Probably not going to see a museum piece. But you will see a car like this. And since it’s a barn find survivor, it’s just as cool.

If we rewind back to car covers through, maybe now might be a good time to revamp that project you’ve let sit for a little to long.  Do you have a Charger, Challenger or other Dodge muscle car waiting to be bolted back together? We’d love to see it, so share it on our forums!
