Classic 1970 Charger R/T Is ‘Pretty In Pink’
Meticulously restored 1970 Dodge Charger R/T packs a 440 V8 and is estimated to sell up to $250,000 at an upcoming auction.
Believe it or not, Plum Crazy Purple was not the most outlandish color to come from Dodge in the 60s and 70s. Of course, colors like Sublime Green and Top Banana yellow were a bold statement. However, nothing quite hits the mark like this one — the legendary Panther Pink.
This Panther Pink Charger R/T is crossing the auction block at the Mecum Auctions Kissimmee event occurring January 2nd through January 12th, 2020. Its estimated hammer price is between $175,000 and $250,000. That’s a lot of coin, but then, this is a lot of car.
Resting under the hood is the legendary 440 Magnum. However, this 440 takes it a step higher as it is a six-pack model. The six-pack comes with three Holley two-barrel carburetors, making for a total of six throttle valves, hence the name. The setup is capable of over 1,200 CFM of airflow, according to Dodge. When you put your foot down, it makes a roar that can raise your heart rate.
The six-pack sends the power through the Torqueflite automatic transmission. This thing will gladly push you into your seat.
The restoration certainly didn’t stop on the exterior of this beast. The inside is clean enough to eat off of and features all the R/T trimmings. This includes the leather bucket seats with cloth inlays, 150 MPH speedometer, an AM radio, and wood grain finish on the dash and center console.
Of course, the R/T specialties don’t stop on the inside.
The most standout feature of the R/T package on the exterior is the door scoops. However, you’d be forgiven for missing that because it is very easy to get lost in the wild paint job and contrasting white top. It’s just glorious! It’s pretty wild to think that this was a factory available color option.
Perhaps the craziest part, though, is that there is only one other one like it. That’s right! According to Mecum, this is one of only two v-code Chargers to feature the Panther Pink paint job and the 440 six-pack.
As the lovely folks over at Carscoops pointed out, the estimated sales price is enough to get you a widebody Challenger Hellcat Redeye. In fact, you could get two of them and have five digits left over. However, that isn’t what this Charger is about. This is an iconic and limited piece of Mopar history, and we think it’s worth every penny.
