Default turbo prep

What would be recommended to turbo a car. A 96 ES would have tobe rebuilt, andI would like to know what to rebuild to handle a little more power. Also, an intercooler would be beneficial asI understand. If anyone has any specific brand they really like... no clue on this. Dont have much money, but I'm either gonna get a new exhaust, or wait untilI get everything for a turbo.

You should wait to get your exhaust done because you will need to redo the exhaust and have it come off the turbo instead of off the exhaust manifold. If you want to rebuild your motor, you will spend a pretty penny doing it. Roughly about $3k for the turbo kit and another ~$2k-4k forthe rebuild. The build would consist of rods, pistons, 4 layer head gasket, stronger head bolts, not to forget the tranny build consisting of an LSD (wheel hop is going to be bad without it), high stall torque converter (I'd recommend Exile's rebuilt A604 that is made to put up with a boosted motor. There's more, but you get the gist of it.

I agree with BV, the sites are also listed in the resource list located in the FAQ section.

Well, Joe, you have a 2.5L. You'll have to go with Exile Racing...if you can get a hold of them.

Truthfully I'd NOT waste the money ... A 3.0 swap is CHEAPER and more power ... A 3.0 motor wqith 6K miles cost me $600 shipped to the door .... You'lll triple that amount in PARTS only for the rebuild + labor and machining will runn around $3k

ok so your saying i would pretty much be happier with the 3.0 swap both performance and price wise. well i like the sound of a 3.0 being in there i want some where around 300hp can i achieve this outta that motor with doing minimal things to it? 2k sounds way better than 8k to build up what i was wanting too. i will be doing this in the beging of next year around the spring time. Bad if you have any info laying around on this swap hook me up i know about the stikys and must have read them a million times but you never know some one out there just might know more. thanx for the time guys

300 HP is VERY optimistic unless you boost or juice ... 300 is pretty tough on the tranny too ... I blew three before my Level ten one ... It's held up over the years so far (like 50K)... I'll see what I can throw together for the 3.0 swap
