Default Radar Detector

Hi, I own a 95 dodge avenger ES and I want to buy a radar dectector for it. I am traveling 30 minutes a day to work and I would love to be able to get there faster but it seems like I have the worst luck with cops. My cigarette lighter is broken and there is no power going to it at all. I changed the fuse and it still is not getting any power. Is there any way I can replace this cigarette lighter or is there other ways in getting my radar detector to work?

You can replace it or clean the filiment. I would check the plug on the backside first then if it's still putting out 12v, clean the it or replace it. You can't check it with the lighter though, you'll need a multimeter or test light.

you can get a hardwire kit for most of the high-end radar detectors...i have my beltronics rx-65 hardwired. i spliced it in to one of the door lights above the rear-view mirror that's been out since i purchased my venge...and i havea handy little switch for it and no ugly cables hanging down =)

Problem with radar detectors is, if they are shooting you then it's already to late.

not always. if it's a laser...yea, you're screwed. but if it's a speed trap, you'll know for sure. especially if you have a good one you can be alerted up to a mile away...again with mine that'sabout what i was able to pick up. most officers will leave their radar on even when just cruising...atleast that's what i've noticed.

anyways...a hardwire kit atleast for most of the high end models will set you back 15-30 bucks depending on if you get the ones with the mute button on it/etc. i got the plain 10 dollar one from some online retailer.

Yeah, I don't agree with the "being too late" thing too. If you speed alone, then yes, you are obviously the only one to clock. If you are speeding "smart", you'll have other cars in front of you, whether they are cars you are about to pass or if they are a part of the "caravan", regardless, there will be other cars to clock first and your radar detector will pick up the reflected signal (depending on how good your detector is).
There are tons of radar detector "techniques" that help you keep from getting tickets, most, if not all are the type of things that most will say "duh" to. Like not speeding alone. That's a common sense thing, but most take their chances, if you're this type of speeder, cops love you, lol.

I am in no way saying to go faster than the posted speed, I'm just saying.....

Oh yeah, to hardwire a radar detector. It shouldn't matter if the radar detector has a kit for it or not IMO. Mine did and the wire was really short. Every detector that I installed for folks, family or friends, I've cut the plug that came with it and soldered on longer wires and ran it to the cig lighter power wire.

Can this hardwire kit connect directly from the radar detector to the fuse box under the dash? Or do I have to solder it to the cigar lighter wires?

The fusebox is fine actually. I didn't want wires sticking out of the box so I soldered a fuse onto the lighter's power wire and called it a day. Any 12v, switched, power wire will work, just make sure that it's not related to any of the lighting.

LMAO yeah I agree with Hi Ho Silva cops do love speeders and they LOVE trick out wips cuz they assume u speed to match that look. I usually follow sum1 else when im flying so so they tag them first and give me the oppurtunity to slow down. There have been times I lead 3 or more cars out of traffic but onces i get clear i fall back.

The detector I had was sum how spliced to the air bag swtich. Then from there, I had an attennae on my rear window. The radus wasn't as good as the expensive ones. Its funny when I first bought the car I thought it was an alarm till I was "Testing" her down a highway and it was chirpin and the chirps started gettin fast like I wuz in a Sub and sum1 shot a missle at me so I slowed down as soon as I hit around 70 a cop speed past me. I think he was lookin for me cuz I was switchin lanes like the hips on Shakira.

Yo airman only $30 bucks u sure? Are u talkin just for the kit or kit and labor?
