I have a couple of questions,First off i do not know the history of this truck..The transmission seems to be fine the fluid smells ok and does not appear to be dirty nor burnt the truck has 134,000 miles on it,Would you leave it be or go ahead and service it?And question #2 this truck has the 3.9 v6 but has no vacume advance mounted on the distributor what's up with that?Is this normal..Thank's from dakotaman.

If it was my truck and I know the tranny fuild never been changed I would change it. 134,000 mi that is alot. One quick oil change is not changing anything (expet for the oil). and there is a filter in there that should be replaced as well. after 134,000 miles the fuild can brake down and that is not a good thing. If you got $20 and a hour to do it. or $40 and take it somewhere for 15min.

I changed mine with 140,000miles on it, it ended up slipping and then ultimately killing itself. I never even laid into it with the 360 before it did it.

that distributor you are bidding on is not for a 3.9l in the dakota. i own an 87 dakota 3.9l and there is no vacumn advance on the distributor it is located on the computer which is on the passenger fender. if you are not sure look that model up on advance auto parts web site and they do show a picture of one.

Well acording to my dodge dakota owners manual, it says every 37,000 mi. So I wouldnt push it! Sure it would work. Just as engine oil will last up to 140,000 miles, that desnt meen it is just as good as new! Ya there is sythetics that can go more but deffently not 140,000 and if it has never been changed your dealing withlate 80s or early 90s oil technolgy. Thats over20-15 years or so. As far as yours acting up when changed, I belive your blaming the wrong thing! By 140,000 miles you past dodges recemendation almost 4 times. Sure if it works it okay but its cheep insurance!
