quick, easy and cheap mods

You can do the "kegger mod" where you cut down the runners in the intake manifold, and bore out your throttle body just a little bit and put on headers and a low restriction exhaust. All that could potentially cost less than $200. But you have to do all of those things if you want to see any gains, doing one of them won't help.
You can take off the big, heavy mechanical fan and put in an electric fan on it. That could cost less than $100.

Um, nice try Pbadgley, but a 90 amp alternator running at 14 volts uses 1.68 horsepower from the engine... assuming your using every bit of those 90 amps, and you'd have to be running some crazy electronics to pull that kind of current. So if you took the alt off, you'd potentially free up 1.68 hp, so putting a smaller pully on it and running the standard set of electronics may save .2-.3 hp. I don't know about the water pump, but it can't possibly save that additional 6-9 hp (to get up to your claimed 7-10 hp gain) without ineffectively cooling the truck.
I would personally NEVER sacrafice my trucks electrical and cooling capabilites to free up 2 to 3 hp, cause thats all you're really saving.
