whats next on the repair list for a bad idle?
i think i need to clarify a bit, hmm?...lol jk
i have the 2 wire temp sensor on the intake all hooked up(it works to). my truck has the 1 wire coolant temp sensor installed on it. when i was rewiring my truck i found the 2 wire coolant temp sensor connector(which i cut out because i had no sensor to hook it up to, it kinda just feel out of the wiring harness as i opened it up). i'm trying to figure out why i have a 2 wire connector for the engine coolant temp sensor and a 1 wire connector for the same sensor
i think why should be on the same page now.i'll put pics up tomorrow because my camera died and is charging...lol
i don't think i was being clear earlier, i'm getting pretty exhausted because its fleet maintenance week at work and i'm the only mechanic they have...
**edit** (see what i mean by being exhausted) i started my truck today and it threw the cel which gave me code 22. is the second temp sensor connector throwing this code?***

Yes, you should have (or have had) 2 connectors for what may seem like the same sensor...
There are 2 seperate engine coolant temp sensors on the intake manifold. They are behind the alternator, next to the heater upper radiator hoses. One of those sensors has a 1 wire connector. The other sensor has a 2 wire connector. The sensor with only 1 wire is soley for the gauge on your dash. The sensor with 2 wires is for the computer. Without the 2 wire sensor there, you will still be able to see the engine temp on your dash, but the computer won't be registering the engine temp, which is a huge problem... that is a vital sensor for how the engine runs!

No, neither are optional. They both serve a purpose. The one tripping your code is the the one you don't have anymore.
I really don't know how else to word this... I've tried twice already!!
1 wire sensor = gauge on your dash
2 wire sensor = computer input
Maybe I'm trying too hard to explain, but let me try one last time. The 1 wire sensor's only job is to control your dash gauge for the water temperature. It has nothing to do with the operation of your engine or any computer function. It's sole purpose is to show you what the water temp is via the gauge.
The 2 wire sensor is there for the computer's input. The computer needs to know the water temp to control both engine tuning and determining which loop to be in (open or closed loop). If you don't even have that sensor plugged in because the wire connector is long gone, the computer doesn't know what to do and that is why your truck is not running right.
The two sensors are 100% independant of each other... they each have their own seperate job. The sensor that is causing you all this trouble is the 2 wire sensor. Forget about the 1 wire sensor, it is meaningless in your particular situation... unless of course your gauge doesn't work.
You need to find a replacment connector to replace the one that is not there anymore. Until you replace it and make sure that it is plugged into a good sensor, your truck will continue to run bad.
Also, the 2 sensors are NOT interchangeable.

Ok, now I'm confused. I thought you repeatedly said you did not have the 2 wire sensor and that the connector was cut from the wiring harness?
I think at this point I need lots of pictures!
I'd offer to take a picture of mine, but it might not do you any good. I have a different intake manifold and had to drill and tap one of the sensor holes myself.

but the problem is the computer is throwing the code for the coolant temp sensor and when i went back over the wiring for it, it was never disconnected. i looked over the wiring diagram i have and it doesn't show any 1 wire coolant temp sensor(which is a purple/yellow wire i believe) it only shows the 2 wire sensor(tan/black and black/light blue) although when i redid the wiring i cut out the 2 wire sensor connector thinking it didn't go anywhere. i can't plug in the 2 wire sensor connector because the coolant temp sensor has one terminal blocked off. do i need this other 2 wire connector?
lol i couldn't find the sensor to plug it into so i thought it wasn't being used...
good thing i saved the connector...and the other 12ft of wire i saved from the rewire.
