my dad actually suggested that i do it to my truck too and just convert it to 4wd. since he has all the tools and the room in his garage and the unlimited resources that allow him to get exactly whatever part he needs for any car, i might actually do it this summer...

Yup 12:20am. Just 1 hour after I got off of work. Just like today too. 12:14am.

I have a good write up on the conversion in the FAQ2 in this section.

cool! i'll check that out...the only thing is that my truck wasn't 4x4 in the first place so everything will have to be made up

Thats what Crazy is talking about... he got his truck as a 2wd Dakota, and found a 4x4 frame and swapped everything over.

But trust me Shadow... you don't want to try to take a 2wd frame and do a SAS!! I thought about doing it with the bare 2wd frame in my garage one time, went out and looked at it to try to come up with a plan, and quickly decided it would be much more difficult to pull off! It just isn't designed to be used in a 4x4 application!

i thought about switching frames but there isn't a 1st gen 4x4 dakota for parts that is in within my budget, yet. they are all 2wd or 2nd gens

Hmm, well now I'm wondering if you could do a SAS on a 2nd gen frame, and then weld the 1st gen body mounts onto it?! It would sure let you do the project without much downtime with your truck!

The problem is, you just put in that 2wd transmission and you'd have take it out to put in a 4x4 transmissions!

i know, it kills me every time i think about the lack of 4wd that i have but i guess the ability i had before of blowing ricers off the road cheers me up a bit...lol
although my moms 05 civic is really zippy.
i raced a 2010 tacoma with it and beat him by a car length.

Lol, these trucks are definately fast for being old trucks! I kept up pretty good with a '09 Mustang GT a couple months ago that tried to pass me in a merge lane at an intersection from a dead stop... we both snatched the clutch really hard when that light turned green! I can't say I was ahead of him, but he was only a fender's length ahead of me when he finally decided he wasn't going to get far enough ahead to merge before the lane ended!! And that was back when I had 31.5 inch tires and 3.55 gears! I like to imagine I could have beat him straight up with 4.10s!!

yeah i kinda had 1 in with an 09' civic. he was behind me and as we were coming up to a construction site that went down from 3 to 2 lanes he started to speed up,and after him tailgating me for the last 10m miles my best reaction was to speed up. needless to say i put the pedal to the floor and as soon as the tranny downshifted the tires broke loose and my rear bumper almost took his car out...last time i do that on wet roads.

although i don't condone street racing, i do get the slip on someone i know can beat me. its always at a light i'm familiar with and when the cross traffic light turns red i take off. its that split second jump that throws them off9 learned that after trying to race my uncle...lol)
