Default 93 3.9 auto down shifting

This thing is constantly kicking down into passing gear to get up even the smallest of hills. Just gave it new plugs, wires, cap, rotor. Are these 3.9s really powerless? Am I missin something? Any help would be much appreciated!

Adjust your transmission linkage.

Never done that before! How do I know which way and how? Is it easy!? THAT would make engine feel powerless?

Sorry, I looked through old posts, and found just what I was needing-thanks! This is a great site. Better than any other I've seen. Thanks to all that make it "happen".

Today, I was gonna adjust the tv cable, but it didn't need any adjustment! I noticed when I don't drive with cruise control, and keep speed even, it doesn't "kick down" into passing gear-only when I'm using the cruise!

You may have a leak in the hose then. Well that is how mine worked.

Powerless?

I wouldn't say so. My 3.9 runs like a scalded dog. Plenty of power for me... right now anyway. It doesn't have V8 grunt, it is what it is. Plenty capable.

My old F100 with the big block 360 would spank the 3.9 like a red-headed step-child, but the little V6 does a fine job with much better fuel mileage.

Thanks for the replies guys. Maybe I'll put more slack in the tv cable so it won't kick down so soon, and let the engine "work"!

Um, you would want to tighten it, not the other way around. Increase in cable pressure increases the pressure neccessary to shift.
