Default HEI Distributor

Just wondering if anyone has pulled it off on a 318 or 360 in a dakota. Any clearance issues with the firewall?

Thanks

If it is a Magnum there that is correct. If it is a carburated LA engine it may help but not much.

How will the ignition system change help anything? Once the spark has ignited the air/fuel mixture, the job is done. I raced for a while, the guys I ran against all put HEI on their Fords, yet they still couldn't beat me with my stock Ford igntion system.

LOL! You talk about HEI like it is a supercharger or turbocharger. Do you really know what HEI is? It is High Energy Ignition. Some 80-90's style Chevys V8's came with them. It is a coil on top of the distributer. There are kits to fit this type of system on top of other distributer systems.

Any High Energy/Output coils will give a stronger spark. The stronger spark the more complete burn you can have. All modern engines (90's-up) have higher output coils vs older engines. So upgrading a stock style 70's or 80's POS coil to a HEI or a High output coil will help. And also by eliminating the coil wire on a HEI style system you save a few ohms. Most modern engines have direct coil to plugs for this exact reason.

By it self maybe .25HP alone. If you add in High out put coil and High performance wires and Spark Plugs all together 1-2HP. Just like any performance upgrade you don't get much improvement by it self, You have to upgrade the rest to get full potential. So headers intake ect will get more out of the upgrade.

For someone in racing you don't know much about upgrades. I bet you raced stock/unmodified cars. Probably Mustangs. LOL!

But like I said if it is a Magnum 92-up engines on Dodge trucks it is not needed. Stock already has a good system. You can upgrade the coil to a High output coil. Which will help out a little bit. 1HP or less.

I'll put my knowledge of ignition systems up against you any day. I know more about HEI, MSD, TFI, coil on plug than you'll ever know. I've done extensive research on ignition coil designs including disecting them and cycle testing.

There is an advantage if your running a carbed magnum and have a severe hatred of wiring.
